Of possible interest to some, I used the some of the home brew things I think I found via this forum:
Jim's Weather: Sorry Jim I didn't fully follow the first page so took what I want and adapted it to my game.
We had rain, and I decided a lot of it all day. It's only impact, from what I understood of the rules, was -1 to all combat. It didn't dominate but made for a damn good narrative addition!
Every combat having to remind myself to -1 to both sides meant every combat I was imagining these poor bastards slogging through a terrible wet day.
I may not have followed all that you wrote but what I took made for a great addition thank you!
Recommend you all look into it.
Medieval Unit Cards:
All printed out in colour on card and pretty like.
An invaluable addition which really helped speed up play.
Very helpful, thank you very much to whoever made them!
Do you think you could do something similar for the different types of terrain and how it impacts gameplay or units please?
I'll reward you by naming you as one of the Levy commanders in my campaign so we can follow your exploits... or terrible demise if that helps sweeten the deal lol.
Time of day display:
Printes in colour on card. Fortunately one of my other hobbies is book binding so I've a wire binder so that was actually quite fun to make.
The Battle only lasted until the end of the 7th hour, Early Afternoon, but again that visual aid really helped set the scene and build the narrative of the game.
It, along with the reminder of the incessant rain, put me in the headspace of these poor souls slogging through the terrible weather for hours on end.
Again recommended.
Detailed contents page:
Well what can I say? It's a detailed contents page and if you've not printed it yet then please let this be the encouragement you need to do so.
Well done and thank you to whoever put it together as you're not referenced on the document.
Things to try:
I've printed the Lessons from history booklet and am looking forward to integrating those as I'm aware that some of the rules in that directly to WotR IIRC.
Solo battles. I've got it and am intrigued as I play solo so feel this might be a fun way to run the game like an engine and maybe remove any lingering bias I may have for my home side, Yorkshire lol.
Random Terrain Generator: I like the idea of this but feel I need to learn more about the rules of each terrain pieces before I use this. There's already plenty to keep a track of so don't want to burden my little brain lol.... though if anyone of you knowledgeable about the rules types fancy making terrain type reference cards hint hint 😉.
Collision Course Local Conditions: SheffMark, who I'm partly blaming for getting me on this DBA kick!, recommended this. It sounds fun and is definitely on the list. I think it could work well with the Time Display mentioned above.
Also I saw something somewhere about treating Ploughed fields in a different way to how it's written in the rules, can anyone point me in the direction of those posts please?
For this they were just rough going due to Jim's rain.
Any thoughts, comments and suggestions welcome.
Kind Regards
Tom
