Thanks to Alternative Armies, today I have a new 15mm Wraith on a flying pterodactyl. I need to base the mini, but I use flat steel bases for my 15mm HotT armies.
How do I afix a brass rod to a flat 40mm x 40mm steel base securely? Build up a pedestal with green stuff around the rod? Glue a small bead to the base to help hold the rod upright?
Might have a brass cone I can take from a fishing fly...?
Suggestions and examples welcomed - thanks!

Use cone shaped lead fishing weight at bottom to hold brass rod, glue the weight to the base. The extra weight on the base helps keep the flyers stable. I have 25mm size flyers so often have to glue washers or other flat weights to create stability

I have plenty of dodgy ideas but none for a secure bond. A decorative base? I've got AA's HOT74 Wraith Lord on Fell Beast, to get him off the ground and make him a bit more imposing I've scratch built part of a ruined building on a 40mm square base to perch on. High enough to loom over his enemies but not so high as to be too unstable. Apologies for the dark images.

The length of the two sides is dependent on the weight to be carried. Draco Standards dbagora.blogspot.com/2023/11/late-roman-draco-standards.html

The decorative base is very nice, but mine is a flying model vs. the Fell beast in a sitting position. It is the pterodactyl model associated with the lizardmen in full extended flight.
I could still use that idea - maybe a rock wall on the 40mm x 40mm base instead of a bead or fishing weight, with the model just happening to be flying over it. Or use vegetation to hide the bead or the v-shaped bottom?
Thank you for all the ideas!

When I do flyers I often just use strong florist wire, twist one end into a circle then bend it at 90° to the shaft and glue the round bit to the base.
