Hott differs from many rules sets by having three very different conditions for losing the game* :- 1. Losing 1/2 your army points, and more than the opponent. 2. Losing your stronghold. 3. Losing your general, and more AP than the opposition.
With that in mind, can players offer scoring systems for a Hott tournament, which attempt to address this variable - so eg not solely based on AP lost (with an eye on eg ‘rider general first element to be destroyed, winner has just killed 2 AP, score 2-0’, causing a low value win).
*…and the possible anomaly of both players ‘losing’ in the same turn + Crap scoring systems are a good way to piss off your player-base.

Hi Martin
you may want to see how you might adapt the East Coast Australian DBA system to HOTT
Ours gives a flat rate for a win --> 8 points
for non wins we give * 1 point per element killed to a max value of 3 (For DBA we do not differentiate double based elements {first one counts as 2} or elements that don't count towards victory {Hd, SCh} for these points; * 1 point for killing a general; * 1 point for capturing a camp or city; * 1 point for a loss;
So a win is always 8 points - that way your winners are all equally ranked regardless of whether they won due to a lucky general kill in round 1 or slogged it out and only won after killing 7 vs 5 {that happened to me once) - otherwise you get angry players ("I'd be on top if it wasn't for Gerald over there getting to fight a Wb army in the open with his Kn army" grumble, grumble "its all the fault of the draw"). A loss can range from 1 point up to 6 points (I really want to see the day that someone kills 3 elements (including the general) and takes the camp but still loses A drawn game scores between 0 points and 5 points
It should be a matter of adapting the non win points to suit HOTT
Cheers

Thanks macbeth….main bone of contention arises from the three variations of ‘how to lose’ under Hott. It changes the dynamic, somewhat.

Im not convinced that anyone in the HOTT community gets very upset about scoring. Given the knockabout nature of the system and the potential for mismatched armies.
Unless you offer a balanced system of matched pair armies I struggle to see how the issues might be fixed by scoring. How might you compensate for unlucky dice throws?

The ADLG (L'Art de la Guerre) rules allow both armies to break, i.e. lose, at the same time. It happens maybe once or twice over a two-day competition. Nobody seems to mind greatly, although, of course, in ADLG there is only one way of losing, which is when your army reaches its break point.
