Hi Folks! Back again... I occasionally make video journals of my solo wargames and thought I would upload some of them to a YouTube channel for others to see. I recently uploaded ‘De Bellis Antiquitatis 3.0 - Alexander v Darius - Battle 3’ here… www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaVEfld0wZfzUss0zgoYl_959oB_9Rc41 A solo game of De Bellis Antiquitatis v 3.0. There are sure to be some mistakes made in my implementation of the rules - please let me know in the comments if you find anything and mention the time at which the mistake occurred, so that I can make notes here so folks will get the most out of the video. Enjoy! I am no expert – just sharing the fun I had playing the battle. I hope you enjoy it. Cheers! - Jeff

Hey man, I look forward to watching this later.
I have fought and re-fought this battle so many times. I'm probably a little less sympathetic to Alexander in setting up Darius as you have been here, I wouldn't have bunched up all my troop on the Persian left to allow the LC to outflank. And the Sch chariot is useless, but good fun.
The main problem I have always encountered is Alexander is;
- He's always in danger of being outflanked on at least one flank and you need to be able to counter this (I'll watch the clips properly late as I have no idea how all the Cv on the right wing failed to do this.)
- Trying to counter it with Pk 1 deep is a lottery.
- The whole thing can often hinge upon if you LC win their duel - I hate LC duels because the CF is so low they are easy to lose and your flank goes. but it can easily go the other way and you are in.
_ The best place for Alexander is behind the phalanx which is set up much as you have it 2 elements of 1 deep, 1 element of 2 deep and another 2 elements of 1 deep. Then you choose where he is going to hit (matching him up against a QK (usually a Sp or Aux) then form one of the 1 deep elements into a 2 deep and charge Alexander through the gap and he should have 2x 2 deep pike phalanx either side of him and if the dice are with you you blow a hole in the line.
