...using older versions the Samnites was a powerful army. With the commander as cavalry. But now the army is fast only without power: ...the minis are made by ATF but ther was one sculptet pattern only. So now it is quite copy of the terracota army in China, right? ...using the Triumph rules the army is fast and powerful but weak against mounted. Here the Ax are Raiders an expensive troop type. Most european armies of that period are Javelin cavalry also an expensive troop type. That means 2 point. Weak against horse archers but good against foot. So Samnits are a small army with 13 stands only. An Sicilian hoplita army can be larger; 15-16 stands with 3 or 4 javelin cavalry... ...reading the discussion here in the forum would meen to change the rules or use version 22 like me

You could play them as Bd(F) in v3 if your opponent agreed.
This came up in another thread where the idea of Samnites as Bd(F) received some support.

Well the Samnites were rather good! Tell him he can have Camillan Romans. Should be an interesting punch-up.

...a few years agowe played battles in Thun in central Switzerland. Mostly early Italien wars. Me with Samnites and my opponent with Camillan Romans. It was a question of terrain. If i manage outmaneuver the Romans i did winn. But in good terrain the Romans were too strong...
