I've taken the plunge and painted my first Napoleonic armies. These are AB figures. Not sure how much further I'll take this project but wanted to try DBN and DBA-HX. If I like it, I'll paint more. But they are a bit painful with all the decoration and detail! One army was painted with acrylics and one almost completely with Speedpaints. Can you tell which is which? Cheers Jim

Cheers Jim Napolionics are fiddly to paint. Do what I did with Napolionics, go 2mm scale, then you don’t have to worry about getting the right shade for the cap badges! Your figures look great. I really enjoy DBN, I also use their suplement rules for War of the Spanish Succession, American civil war, both in 2mm and Colonials which I model in 10 mm.

The lace, cuffs and collar put me off, but kudos to you.

It's a sad thing the 'shako and Bayonet' the 2-element per battalion sub-set to HFG was never developed to publication, or even broad play-testing.
I'd love to see a copy and give it a try.

Hello David,
Such a pity that no one seems to have the copy of the rules by WRG that seem to be never released, the idea of two bases per battalion would be great for 6mm miniatures on small table as it would work very well for smaller battles.
I am a big fan of the The Spanish American wars of independence & smaller actions of The War of the First Coalition.

Regards David F Brown Hi David, The mention of Shako and Bayonet stirred something in the old grey matter. Buried away on a memory stick I have just uncovered a copy of Shako and Bayonet 1791- 1850 and also Bicorne and Bayonet 1791-1802. I can't recall where I downloaded them from. I thought it was the WRG website many moons ago. Both are clearly works in progress with many sections of red font text which is similar to the way Phil issued revised drafts of other rules when under development (DBMM and DBA3). They are intrinsically the same with the former expanded to cover the longer time period. Two bases to form a battalion or similar of 500-800 men, standard DBx basing. Shame there was no further development. Might give them a go. Martyn.

Hi there Martyn
Great news to hear they have survived in any form, I have been trying for years to find a copy. A number of us helped with suggestions for and development of HFG, but that seemed to often get put on the back burner as Phil worked on other projects.
I guess these sets were before Phil decided on three sub-sets without overlapping dates, the tightly-dated Bicorne and Musket is interesting and something I've never heard of - it's possible both sets pre-date HFG and were put aside while that was worked on.
I would love to play some games with these and see what PB was thinking.
Can you send a copy to dfmbrown@mpx.com.au
Many thanks in advance
David F Brown
