The organisers have indicated they will stop the ticket sales in a couple of days in order to complete their floor plans. After this, a single ticket will be left as we have an odd number of participants, but when that is gone it's gone.
If you are still considering booking, please do so asap!
See you there.

Good luck to those competing tomorrow in the second competition of the 23/24 season. UK league standings will be posted for the first time, after this event has taken place ;-)

Ten players for yesterday’s tournament, held in the vast ‘aircraft-hangar-style’ Hall One at Farnborough airfield. Five games each, with plenty of time to get them done (did anyone have a draw? Didn’t see any…).
I’ll leave the details to hamilcar, but CONGRATS to Pete D. on securing victory, and thanks to Westwind/Forged in Battle and Deep-Cut Studio for sponsoring the event.
Only two duplicate armies, I think…WHO was the REAL Spartacus?? I took Polybian Roman + Numidian ally, on the basis that I’ve never used Polybians at a tournament before, and added Numidians for an El and a pair of LH to deal with all those Kn I expected to face, but which I then didn’t meet, bar one game where only two appeared 🙃.

Love the idea of taking a force just because, perfectly reasonable thinking. You did let yourself down a little taking fake Roman's though.
If they didn't appear in Asterix and Obelix they are not real Roman's.

My sole prev attempt at using the ‘Asterix compliant’ EIR was many years back at a Midland Open in Tarrington. At the time it wasn’t too often that I’d come last, but that was one VERY memorable occasion…I blame the Batavian ally, of course.😎⚔️⚔️⚔️

Good to see DBA at Warfare this year. With 420 competitors, including a few DBA players, the huge exhibition hall was warm and noisy despite its size. A leisurely five games allowed us time to wander around other tournament games and the traders, and for me to play an extra game after my opponent quickly despatched my tough looking professional force with his rabble of ex slaves.
From a huge army list I brought Parthians with an LPIA ally, the Arabs providing some much needed solid foot . Painted a few years ago it was good to get them on the table at last. I had five good games against armies from across the extensive army list including; two Seleucids (one with a Parthian ally), Carthaginians, Early Germans and those wiley revolting Spartacusians.
Thanks to Hamilcar for organising the DBA event and for the gifts we all received. I hope it runs again next year and that a few more DBA players join in the fun.

Five games of DBA v3 at yesterday’s Warfare event, Farnborough UK, run by Ivan Djokic, who coped well with all the usual ‘challenges’ compounded by having to child-mind at the same time (!!). Theme was armies and enemies of the Roman Republic. Armies used by others were: Carthaginian, Marian Roman, Slave Revolt-Spartacus (x 2), Parthian + LPIA ally, Seleucid, Seleucid + Parthian ally, Syracusan and Early German.
I took Polybian Roman, dropping both the Triarii and one element of Velites in favour of a Numidian ally (2 x light horse and a nelliephant).
1. Invading against Spartacus (Mark S.). A couple of big hills and a fort secured the Slave Revolt army’s flanks, so the Hastati/Principes drove forward in the centre. They had some success, but on my right Spartacus led cavalry, hordes and blades to cut through my Italian allies and forced us to realign. Meanwhile, one unit of Roman Hastati pressed too far forward in the centre where they were eventually overwhelmed by ‘slaves fighting in native German/Gallic style’ (Wb), giving Spartacus a 4-3+Hd win.
2. Defending against Syracusans (under Joe F.), on a very open field. Roman + Italian allied foot closed on the hoplites of the enemy centre and left, and the fighting went to and fro. On our left the Numidian ally sent elephants to trample a troublesome artillery unit, breaking through the Syracusan line just too late, as enemy cavalry had meantime swooped on the main Roman flank to secure a victory. Loss by 2-4.
3. Invading against Early Germans (Colin C.). The terrain dicing left a battlefield far less favourable to the Germans, but they came out to play nonetheless. Auxiliaries and Roman swordsmen tussled with the German warrior blocks, assisted by elephants, and a cavalry battle developed on the Roman left. Eventually this swirling clash was resolved when Numidian light horse charged the flank of the German general’s cavalry bodyguard, leading to a Roman victory (4g-1).
4. A different Spartacus this time, as we invaded the territory of Phil B.’s Slave Revolt army. The left flank faced off some slaves on a rugged hill, while the centre charged in, led by the elephant, storming down a central road. The Roman foot broke through in the centre, and a messy fight on our right flank saw Spartacus unhorsed by the Polybian general, with the assistance of those wily Numidian light cavalry. Win by 4g + 4 x Hd to 1. [SoA Championship game].
5. Last game was against Keith M.’s Seleucids, who defended on a terrain-crowded board. The Seleucids set up between the coast and a massive inland wood, while the Polybians had their left constricted by a huge temple complex (‘edifice’ terrain). Something of non-Mexican standoff followed in the centre, neither side prepared to engage. To break the deadlock the Romans sent Italian allied auxiliaries into the large forest, hoping to threaten the opposing flank, while the Roman Equites started to work down the flank outside of the woodland, assisted by some of the Numidian horse. This flank move was slow to produce results, but the threat was sufficient to provoke Keith’s Seleucid main line to attack. Some Roman foot fell before the advancing cataphracts, but the Seleucid pike-block was slowed by Numidian elephants and light horse, allowing a party of Principes to assault the flank of the phalanx. A large swathe of phalangites broke just as the Italians in the woods overwhelmed the opposing thureophoroi. A tough, tough game, and a lucky win for the Romans (4-2).
A good day of games with a variety of opposition, held at a very busy show. Great fun.
