Twas good fun.
We'd been told there were some new players who needed to learn the game but everyone I played definitely knew what they were doing.
The Egyptians v Hittites in 28mm was interesting. Pharaoh and another chariot managed to occupy the Hittite General and the other Hch, whilst the Bd occupied the Hittite fast pike, mainly by losing combats but failing to be destroyed by 1 on the dice each time! On the left wing the Egyptian Bw shot down one Hittite chariot then with the help of another Egyptian LCh and some fast Bd managed to take out the other Hittite LCh and two Ax for the win.
My Macedonian pike managed to brave the EAP arrow storm (unlike the 3Ax that was constantly pushed back) and get into the Persian 8Bw. The solid Greek Ax heroically held off some Persian mounted giving time for the pike to eventually do their job and break through the Persian line, killing 3 elements but one of them being an 8Bw.
As the Carthaginians, an early foray into an edifice on the EIP Roman right with my Ps managed to hard flank and kill a Roman Bw. But they then sat there for the rest of the game, Hannibal not being able to afford the extras PIPs as he was over on the opposite flank trying to contain the Roman General plus another Cv, LH and 4Ax, all the while trying to avoid the bolts that came flying across from the Roman Art. Having messed up the movement of my main Sp, El and 4Wb battle line, so they couldn't wheel into contact, a high PIP roll finally allowed me to move them in separately and although Nelly was bounced the Gauls did their stuff. One other Roman element went down and a final lucky dice throw with an outflanked Cv against an outflanked LH secured the win.
3 games in a night, my first game of 28mm DBA and hopefully a new recruit to the DBA tournament scene.
Oh and did Baldie mention he beat one of the Johnson brothers?
