It is a miracle our generation group fairly normal. On TV we were exposed to "Muffin the Mule", and the Magic roundabout, with a dope smoking Rabbit and Zebbade desperately trying to get Florence to go to bed!
On Top of that we had Tom and Jerry, 5 minutes filled with gratuitous violence, then Blue Peter where following a visit by the female presenter to a Cathedral where she was explaining about the doors sanctuary handles, John Noakes said "Whoa, What a great pair of knockers!"
Not to mention Noddy and Big Ears and their interesting relationship., and then there were Christopher Robin and his girlfriend Alice who, in the rhyme, appeared to commit some sexual act at Buckingham Palace as expressed in the line "Christopher Robin went down with Alice!"
Yes it is amazing we survived our childhood years unscathed!
Actually if you go back to circa 1890 my great grandfather ran a pub which became "Oddfellows", now in the time you are talking about you would not want to be called that.
In fact the "Oddfellows" organization helped travelling salesmen with accommodation and contacts etc., it was very respectable.
Words and their meanings need to be carefully checked, it is surprising the alternatives that are considered obsolete sometimes.
Let alone English-English and American/Canadian-English.
If you want to test a translation program try English to German and back into English (or to suit).
