A bunch iof games of DBA v3.
1. My Picts (II/68a) invaded Arthur’s Britain (II/81a). Arthur (or Richard P., in fact) had called in a Late Imperial Roman ally, who was stationed on the Sub-Roman left flank, the main battle line extending level with them. The Pictish spearmen launched an immediate attack on the Roman end of the line, and a long melee ensued with the enemy cavalry and cataphracts, culminating in a routed cataphractarii unit but a few too many Pict losses, despite the odds. Lost 2-4.
2. Ostrogoths /Heruls defended v Colin O’s Attila’s Huns. Large village in the Herul front left saw street fighting between my skirmishers and Germanic warbands with Hun horse archer support. This led to two Germanic warband falling in exchange for three Gothic skirmishers. Towards the coast the Herul cavalry (3Kn) ransacked the Hunnic camp, and also charged Attila, who fell in the assault . (3g+camp -3 win).
3. Next game- based on the recent Bakewell Wimp Wars theme (minimum. 6 Ps/LH). My Ancient Brits were invaded by Edward Bruce’s Medieval Irish (under Richard P.). A very tight game, with my warband general threatened by enemy mounted, while kern and Brit slingers slugged it out in a village. Warband held out in enclosures near the village, but the crunch came when Edward was brought down by a Brit light horse javelin...a lucky win, 4+gen to 4). Society of Ancients Championship game.
4. Last game – early Muslim North Africans were invaded by Abbasid Arabs. Slave troops landed on the beach...along with some Arab archers. These detached and started harassing the enemy centre. A big cavalry battle developed inland between the respective mounted troops of both sides. Eventually an element of horde from the Abbasid centre started to nibble their way along the EMNAS line., and as a result my EMNAS General was backed up against the ‘edge of the world’, about to be pushed into oblivion, when auxiliaries on the coast came to his rescue by killing off the last Abbasid skirmisher needed to tip the balance for a 4 - 3 win...close one!
Lots of fun, and a varied bunch of armies to sample.
