IV/6c Syrian / Arab Dynasties. Two Solid Hordes and two Fast Hordes. Why don't I have this army already? I'm thinking of taking advantage of Legio Heroica's sale prices to get this army, drawn from their " Crusaders - Muslim Armies" range. - Cv Syrian Cavalry and Command -- Suggestions from this range needed, please
- LH Bedouins -- MUS17 Bedouin
- 3Wb Ghazis -- MUS40 Muslims with swords???
- 7Hd Ahdath militia -- MUS21 seems the right choice.
- Ps Archers -- MUS20 Arab - Syrian archers (or MUS22)
- 5Hd Mutatawwi'a -- Suggestions from this range needed, please
Help me spend some money!

Help me spend some money! Paul,MUS12 ( Syrian Command) Armoured Ayyubid lancers MUS11 ( Syrian cavalry) Armoured Arab lancer with a few MUS17 Bedouin cavalry mixed in. The two horde elements can be a mix of MUS21 Ahdath militia and MUS40 Muslim with sword (ask Giuseppe for a few shields)

While I don't intend to build the Arab Dynasties in Syria army, the other two sublists (Turkish Dynasties and Abbasid Iraq) are on my planning desk. From my planning notes: - Syrian cavalry and command should use MUS8 / MUS9 Arab Lancers/Askars - Syrian cavalry was characteristically less heavily armoured than mercenaries from neighbouring States and relied mostly on the lance. The minis have the right round shields, horses that haven't adopted the Turkish persianate custom of tying the tail up, and IMO plainly the right look I'd go for. - Ghazis and mutatawwi'a are somewhat vague categories and their distinction in-game is rather arbitrary; I decided to for the cliché of fully robed infantry in austere religious colours for ghazis and a more confused, improvised look for the mutatawwi'a. With Legio Heroica minis, I think Arab Javelinmen (MUS19) could work well for mutatawwi'a, especially if you don't use shields in all of them; the poses are quite dynamic which I think works well for 5Hd. For ghazis, the unarmoured swordsmen figures in movement (MUS40) could give them a nice 3Wb feel; you can add some shields with religious motives to reinforce their ghazi status. Alternatively, if I had to go for the "fully robed fanatic" trope with LH minis I'd probably use the fully-covered Sudanese javelinmen (MUS25), although I'll actually use figures from another manufacturer for my Syrian and Iraqi ghazis.

Help me spend some money! Mitch Harbach loves this army and it is a lot of fun to play.

Salutations, gentlefolk !
If I may have your indulgence to ask a couple of dumb questions...
First, if I'm putting together the lead for an Arab army, how well do Legio Heroica go with Essex / Blue Moon / Khurasan, size and 'heft' wise ?
Second, are there any guides to changes in appearance of Middle-Eastern Arab armies, between, roughly, Mohammad and the Conquests and the Second Crusade - clothes or troop types that would be anachronisms, earlier or later ?
Thanks for any help, links, book titles, you can give me on this. (Have the WRG books and most of the relevant Ospreys)

I haven't seen Khurasan Arabs, but broadly speaking, I'd say more recent Legio Heroica figures are roughly as tall as those of Essex, but they are heftier, everybody solidly built in these armies. The Khurasan figures I have are somehow in between, closer to Legio Heroica, I'd say, but other people may be more accurate about specific ranges. There is however a distinctive style to Giuseppe's figures that makes them easy to recognise as his.
