At our recent Good, Bad, and Ugly tournament, there was some question about a group moving into contact with enemy group but not exactly aligned. Some thought that the moving group should slide in the direction needing the shortest distance to align. This troubled some who were concerned that such a move would take the end element of the moving group out of (to the side of) the enemy’s base width distance frontal area.
What to do when a shift to conform will move element out of the opposite Base Width area?

Hi Bob.
I think the rule is at the bottom of page 15 (2.1/2014 edition). A groupo can slide up to 1/2 BW to line up with an element within 1 BW ahead - but this is not a free move.

Yes, shortest distance to align and this may well create an element sliding out of the Threat Zone it started in and to the side to face open space 👍

Spare your players further agony and just use the DBA 3.0 mechanics.
