I am just putting together a Dacian army. I note that there are no archers in the v3 army list - either 3/4Bw or even Ps with bows. Phil's own Armies and enemies of Imperial Rome mentions that archers were a substantial minority. Any thoughts on their absence from the list?

Regards Simon Pure speculation, but research may have found it was the Sarmatian (II/26) that supplied the skirmishing archers. The archers can now be employed as part of an allied contingent; 2 x 3Kn (incl. General), 1 x Ps.

Curiously, one of the carved panels from Trajan's trophy mound in Romania has one of the mailed legionaries chasing down an archer seeming sniping from a tree. I wouldn't think that squared with the behavior of a steppe horse archer, and if the legionary stone carvers who seem to have made the trophy thought archers were important enough to add to the pictures, psiloi ought to be a possibility at least. The metopes can be seen in the Wikipedia entry en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropaeum_Traiani .

There were no archers in DBA 2 either. There was an artillery option. Wonder why that is gone?

Thanks everyone. I think I will replace one of the javelin Ps with a Bow Ps - it won't alter the army list but will make me feel a bit better about the look! Interested that Phils own research in his WRG Imperial Rome book talks about archers. As for allies I will take three Sarmation knights I think.
