I'm going for style over substance, so I'll be bringing the pope on a portable throne (Lit) for my papal italians on day 2. I look forward to regretting that decision.

Well CANCON is over for another year. A great two days of gaming with 12 games played. This year my performance was less than satisfactory with 5 wins from 12 rounds. Looking forward to doing better next year.
Cheers,

I had an absolute blast as per usual, though after 12 games in two days I'm afraid of lying down in case my brain leaks out my ear. Public thanks to Peter for organising, Marcus for sage rules advice and David for doing voodoo spreadsheet black magic.

Another successful Cancon has been completed and DBA was well represented at Australia’s Premier Wargames Event. This year there were 26 players across the 2 days with 24 playing each day. The Format was a fixed army open competition – each player chose their 12 element army with even dismounting elements fixed as either foot or mounted at the start of the tournament, and played 6 rounds each day based on a modified Swiss Chess format. On the first day all armies were from the Ancient and Classical era (Books I and II). The second day saw players change to armies from the Dark Ages and Medieval Period (Books III and IV). The Canberra standard scoring system was followed: A win scored a flat 8 points A loss scored 1 point for ending the game plus the number of elements killed (capped at 3) with an extra point for killing a general or taking a camp. A draw was scored as a loss but without the point for ending the game.
Countback involved the sum of the players’ opponent scores so the higher up a player’s opponents finished (suggesting playing better players and so harder games) the higher their countback score.
A huge thankyou needs to go to Peter Braham for organising the competition, being the human face and front of house, and to Marcus Tragenza for being the umpire. The players themselves behaved in an exemplary fashion proving once again that DBA is the wargame played in heaven.
The final results were
Day 1 Phil Baldoni – II/44 Parthian – 44 Peter Braham – II/56 Early Imperial Roman – 42 Michael Spitzkowski – II/39b Ancient Spanish (Celtiberian) – 39 Bas Brahanm - II/3a Classical Indian - 39 Mark Baker – I/8b Makkan - 39 Brenton Searle – I/32c Western Chou and Spring and Autumn Chinese (Other) – 37 Gary Moriarty – I/32c Western Chou and Spring and Autumn Chinese (Other) – 37 Andrew Smith – II/82b Patrician Roman (East) – 35 Damian Pooley – II/53 Ancient British – 34 Sam Braham – II/19a Selucid – 33 Marcus Tragenza – II/32a Later Carthaginian – 32 Steve Hopkins – I/22a New Kingdom Egyptian – 32 David Lawrence – I/26b Later Mycenaean & Trojan War (Trojan) – 32 Justin Swain – II/74a Palmyran (Odenathus) – 30 Patrick Hersey – II/33 Polybian Roman – 30 Peter Spitzkowski – I/28 Sea Peoples – 29 Peter Condliffe – II/5a Later Hoplite Greek (Spartan army in Greece) – 27 Greg Kelleher – II/22c Arabo-Aramaean (Hatra) – 26 Lachlan Bayliss-Smith – II/25 Bosporan – 25 Timurlane Pooley – II/49 Marian Roman – 25 Leigh Dunn – I/50 Lydian – 24 Michael Chellew – II/15 Alexandrian Imperial – 24 James Anderson – I/24b Later Hittite Imperial – 20 Joshua Bayliss-Smith – II/33 Polybian Roman

Can I also add my thanks to Peter for responding so courteously to idiot requests from the other side of the globe.
