Nic Robson at Eureka Miniatures is inviting expressions of interest (and pre-orders) in a proposed 15mm Sumerian range, modeled after Eureka’s excellent 25mm range, which you can peruse on-line at: eurekamin.com.au/index.php?cPath=87_126_738&sort=3aTentative plans call for the 15mm Sumerian range to consist of 9 codes – a Command pack with Gilgamesh, officers and Royal Guards, plus codes for pikemen, axemen, archers, slingers and javelinmen with mixed poses, and codes for Sumerian battlecarts and straddlecarts…plus an option for Akkadian archers. The final list, including any possible additions to the above, will depend on the level of interest. Nic advises advances orders cumulatively totaling approximately 5000 miniatures (estimated at AUD$4000) would be sufficient to launch the project. Eureka is no longer using its 100/300 Club catalog mechanism to log advance orders, but Nic asks that anyone who is interested contact him directly at nicr (at) eurekamin.com.au

For an all-options DBA v3 I/1b Early Summerian 2799-2334BC army, we need :
- 7 command figurines on foot (some with pikes, some with axes ?) - 28 pikemen - 8 archers - 3 javelinmen - 6 slingers or javelinmen - 2 sumerian battlecarts (including 1 command) - 2 sumerian straddlecarts (including 1 command)
so, 4 carts and 52 infantry figs
add 16 javelinmen to get the I/1c army, add 24 archers to get the I/1a army.
are there other armies that could be played with this range ?

Nic Robson reports as of 26 Oct. that we're about 25% of the way to the green light threshold for the proposed 15mm Eureka Sumerian range…..so if anyone else is thinking about getting their Gilgamesh on and is willing to help support creation of a good range of 15mm Sumerian figures, now's the time to let Nic know at nicr (at) eurekamin.com.au

I'm looking at quick and easy DBA armies to paint and a Sumerian Army is certainly in the top 10! I'm in!

Just sent my pre-order to Nic. He's a bit over halfway there so is happy to keep the project open for a while. So if you're interested but not committed yet please let him know. Who doesn't want DBA army I/1? Nic also said that if he gets more support he may look at expanding the sculpts to include options for Guti/Lullubi and Akkadians. If the 28mm are the inspiration I suspect the models will be spectacular! So if you have a Bronze Age itch that needs to be scratched then please join in. If this is successful we may be able to get Nic to look at other under-represented armies as well. (I'm thinking Geometric Greek and Welsh but I'm sure there are others. Perhaps a full listing for Early Achaemenid Persians? Babylonians? Medes?)

The list is cross-referenced with the 28mm catalogue so you can get a good idea of what you are ordering. fanatichris gave the email address above but I'll copy it in below, seperately from the text. nicr (at) eurekamin.com.au If nothing else, you'll get to look at some nice 28mm sculpts! Nic Robson advises that he's got enough interest to cover 60% of the project and is going to leave the window open until the end of the year. So if you are interested in the proposed range of 15mm Eureka Early (Gilgamesh-period) Sumerians...and haven't already corresponded...contact Nic to confirm your interest before its too late.

I have sent Nic a list for two armies, but that may increase after receiving Nigel's book 'Armies of the Ancient Near East, 3000 BC to 539 BC '. The book should arrive in time for my birthday.
