Prompted by the number of requests about the construction, size and the material used for my DBA terrain I decided to reply in a manner that would be helpful to answer the majority of questions asked and yet to be asked.
The link will bring you to an introduction page with further links to each of the ‘home terrain’’ categories. Where features are duplicated, I placed other photos to illustrate different colour schemes; hills in the south of France should look different from the hills to be found in the deserts of North Africa.
The overview is the accumulated ‘hit and miss’ effort of several years of building terrain pieces with many of these going through three or four versions. Are these the final product? I doubt it, as I am continually exploring with the ‘look’ of terrain features; in that regard, the Witcher project has been very inspiring. dbagora.blogspot.nl/2017/09/dba-terrain-by-type.html

Robert, I'm not sure if anyone else is getting this but when I click on the Steppe or Dry links it redirects to my blog and not the correct page. Really like the look of the gully template in the Tropical section.

Berthier,
Thank you for the note. The links have been corrected for those two and scatter material.
The gully was a recent addition to the collection.
In between photo sessions, I made some marsh for an upcoming Zanj/Abbasid battle. The marsh may seem a bit out of place against the green field, but I was trying to meet my deadline.
Glad you enjoyed the photos.

By all means, take what inspires you and improve on them. I will continue to add or revise features and post them to the blog.
The ‘Index’ will be updated as well. dbagora.blogspot.nl/2012/08/index-storm-within-empire.html

Hi there,
To note that I did purchase some of the Busch ploughed fields, cornfield, hedges and water sheets recently. Very impressed with the base products and the turnaround was quick and efficient.

I place the fields and such are in bags before storing them. This reduces the loss of material through abrasion.

Very sensible ideas, Robert. Terrific looking terrain and yet very practical for ease of play. Nice presentation of your concept in your blog.
Locally, Eric Donaldson has gone all in on creating all new terrain along your ideas. I got a sneak peek at a few of his new "Dry" terrain features, earlier today. I suspect I will soon start in on making all new terrain myself.

My primary goal was to reduce the number of terrain boxes required for an evening of games and that was successfully accomplished.
The current series of Late Roman historical matches we keep swapping back and forth between Arable and Forest. The amount of time needed to switch terrain types is negligible. Even the river, which can be reassembled in a variety of curvatures, looks quite nice when placed between wood and swamp.

Citadel (Base) Rhinox Hide... this is the same shade of brown I use for mud.

Eric Donaldson debuted his all-new, Robert-inspired, terrain at a NAGS' DBA Game Night this week. Within the tight constraints of posting photos on this site, here is an in-game view of Eric's III/54b Qaramita (also brand-new) with two of his "Dry" terrain features, an Oasis and Dunes. Eric distinguished his Dunes feature from Hills with slightly undulating contours, and a lighter appearance. Note how nicely the color palette of his terrain blends in with the Cigar Box game-mat. Very natural looking. Truly an "ensemble" look to his terrain. Here's another in-game view of a Rocky feature, with the scatter terrain that Robert suggested. My cheeky Mike Models III/39b Abbasid Arabs' Fast Blade element also found Eric's new terrain very much to its liking, albeit to the concern of Eric's now-dismounted, Qaramita Longbows. Wisely, I conceded all Aggression die-rolls to Eric so I could ogle all his new terrain.

Thank you Paul for posting pictures - beyond my technical capacity at this point..... I big thank you to Robert for providing the inspiration for my new terrain. I spent much time on his web-site looking at the way he created cohesive terrain and aimed to copy it using my Cigar Box Battles terrain mats for color palate inspiration. I have started on "Arable" terrain to match the Cigar Box Green mat. To me quality terrain adds as much joy to playing DBA as do well painted armies. It really doesn't take that long to produce and adds so much eye-candy to the game.
