Having an interest in WW1 I down loaded Command and Colours The Great War from Steam for £14.99 (alot cheaper than the £50 for the board game).
Richard Borg designed the game and Hexwar developed it for PC.
I have played Command and Colours Napoleonic so I understand the concept.
The game is very well presented and works well with good effects.
For the price it's worth trying out

For the price it's worth trying out I have been playing a lot of Peter Pig's Squarebashing rules recently - also well worth looking into if you are interested in the period.
