I have a wee bit of a problem (other than still painting my army) I left my camp at my nans when I moved and my replacement has not arrived in time, could I borrow a spare if possible please tomorrow? Going to try to get there a bit early as well just so I am not rushing around. Have packed a spare camp.... you could do with dice, some form of measuring device and a bucket of luck . We all forgot to pack the latter. And a fiver, of course. no catering on site, so lunch/drink probably a good idea.

A fun day out, and it was reaaallly good to see a few new and also long forgotted faces. Dunctator with his Fattymids, Denis the Menace back in the saddle AND a junior Menace to give me a good thrashin' with his Wykings, Tim Moore back after a while away and Steve A, and new face from Venta Bulgarum, mustrum. 18 players, a fine attendance.
Had some interesting games, using Italian Lombards with a Sicilian/EMNAS ally- 1/ Tim and me clashed on the shores of Italy, and my littoral Sicilian ally did their stuff well (only game when they played ball......).
2/ Jamie's Vikings formed a solid shieldwall against me and ripped my Lombards to shreds, killing my general and another knight, a spear and a bow.
3/ Tuaregs, faaasands ov em.....we invaded Paul H's Tuareggia, and a 3-3 result, after a tough fight, resulted, with camels in dunes and Lombards keeping their sandals sand-free.
4/ Arnopov's West Franks also hired a Sicilian EMNAS ally, but we clashed inland. Plough turned to rough with a cloudburst on bound One (1 for PIPS). Before the flanks could advance into position the Frankish milites launched in the firm centre ground, and my Italian militia spearmen were vaporised on the spot, a 2-5 loss in short order.
5/ Finally, Colin the Hittite's West Franks invaded my territory. A Sicilian littoral landing was thwarted by his defended camp lining the beach, and in a repeat of the previous game the Franks launched their knights at the Lombard spear-heavy centre, while dismounted milites provided support. The Lombards again crumbled for a 0-4 defeat.
A great afternoon of gaming. Thanks to Bill, Lindon and co. for running the day.
Congrats to Andrew W., whose 'a' list Feudal Spanish defeated invading Tuareg warriors led by Terry in the final.
Cheers all

The PAWS team should be very pleased with the excellent turnout. I was pleased to get a game with Denis the Menace after a very long break and we managed to convince his son to play for the first time as well. The last time I played Denis was at his house and his son was half his present height and not yet tuned in to table top gaming – more mischievous fingers than Machiavellian moves. It’s been tooooo long Denis! Yesterday they both did well and I hope to see them at future events.
After being randomly split into two groups we played 5 games. The winners of each group went forward to a final. With 18 players there was a good range of armies from the excellent theme list, with small clumps around a few of the favourites. As always these days the option to take an ally adds unexpected combinations – unless you study the army lists more than I do. I played against West Franks, Feudal Spanish (a), Early Muslim North Africans (Tuareg ally), Lombards and Lombards (EMNAS ally). I knew it wasn’t going to be my day when in the first game I was a little reckless with my knight general and paid the price as he burst through the enemy line and suffered a fatal door closure. Knight generals – I never learn! One disaster followed another. Catching some psiloi in the open with my cavalry looked promising until my general, who had pounced on a lone spear element, threw another one to the spears’ six. I was hoping to test my west Franks against the Tuareg ‘purple haze’, but they were all in the other group. My only close game was against the EMNAS, all the others were quite one sided and I finished with 2 wins from 5. Time didn’t seem to be an issue, with few draws as far as I could see.
The dice god was certainly being fickle yesterday, but two players sailed through undefeated into the final. Andrew and Terry met for the last game and Andrew with Feudal Spanish (a) and his 5 psiloi quite quickly dispatched Terry’s Tuaregs after destroying his general. It just goes to show you can go into a knight rich tournament with an army containing 5 psiloi and do well.
The cup was still with Claudius who had been struck down by a bug and unable to attend, so a quick handshake saw the day conclude. Congratulations to Andrew and thanks to the PAWS team.

Thanks to Bill, Lindon and co for a great day yesterday. It was excellent to catch up after a LONG hiatus with Colin, Martin, the Dunctator, Mark, Arnopov and the many other excellent PAWS folks. Thanks in particular to those of you who helped Jamie through his first proper games of DBA. (Martin was particularly helpful!) It’s a credit to the club that people are so good about this kind of thing. Thanks to Colin and Bill for persuading us he should give it a go and also to Bill for the very well-chosen loaned army and Dunc for the camp. It turns out that we’re going to be away for both the Open and the December DBA at PAWS but we’ll make an effort to get back soon nonetheless. Having tasted the sweet elixir that is the 6-1, Jamie is keen for more … DTM
