Had to look them up, but as remembered the Moors are a bit light to take on an opponent with a mix of decent troops.
A bit surprised that they didn't pull at least one out.
Good report.

By game 3 the Moors made better use of terrain. In retrospect, a fourth Ax and two Ps might have made a difference.

Under the Black Banner – Umayyad vs. Alan Crossing points through the Caucuses Mountains, if left unguarded, were an open invitation to any of the nomadic tribes occupying the northern regions.
This was an interesting historical match providing some tactical problems. dbagora.blogspot.nl/2017/08/historical-matches-umayyad-vs-alan.html

Seems like the Umayyad might have done better with the three BW option against an essentially all mounted opponent.
Interesting reports as usual.

In previous matches, I found the Ps and 4Ax Dailami worked well as a team and so retained the combination for these games.
The rapidity which the Alan rained death in the first two games unsettled the Umayyad so plans for an aggressive third match were discarded. The third match settled down to a point where the initiative changed hands and the Umayyad could counter-attack.

Makes sense. And having bad going troops who could pop out of terrain and hit flanks isn't a bad idea anyway.
That low pip turn then made a big difference.
And that is why we have die rolls.

Under the Black Banner – an Umayyad civil war. Rival tribes vying for control, resistance to social changes and taxation were frequent cause for open revolt.
Not only the Umayyad but their successors would be frequently plagued by rebellions. The latest post illustrates three such confrontations. dbagora.blogspot.nl/2017/08/historical-matches-umayyad-civil-war.html
