In a couple of recent games I have used a CP and I find them rather fascinating. They are certainly interesting to model and and a degree of interest. They can of course be frustrating as the enemy pour past intent on attacking your camp or attacking more vulnerable components of your army. This happened in my first game with them when due to a lack of PIPs I couldn't move them into a blocking position early enough. However, when attacked they fight with great determination! With respect to their use on the table, and as a starter for ten... How do others use them? What do you see as there strengths and weaknesses?

I don't have one nor have ever encountered one, but on reading the rule book (if I am reading it right this early in the day😪) it looks like you can only kill them with foot on a draw or if you can double them? When in a BUA they can only be killed by foot on a draw...again thats if I'm reading it correctly?
The down side of CP as I see it is that they can't initiate combat so can be Tz'ed to slow them down or pinned so your opponent can go for your weaker elements.

We used one in a recent DBA Campaign. I have painted up a CP for the Norse Irish and had the element used in a Dark Age English campaign
The Norse Irish Player was not happy with how they worked. The only upside was how much space they took up that stopped my Scots from getting around it to fall upon more vulnerable elements.
I have made up CPs for my Norse Irish, Arab Conquest and the as yet incomplete Konstantinian Byzantine. They look great, but good looks do not win a battle.
At least they are allowed to move at all. The original proposal for the rules was that a CP would be immobile. None of us were happy about that one.

As far as I am aware a Samurai CP general never moved, so would need to command over a long distance, that might be the reason the original idea was an immobile CP. Some others such as religious banners on wagons might fall under the same non-move type.

"Haardrada", having your CP element in a Boouh is probably ill-advised, though, as the rest of your army will require an extra PIP to move. (Bad cell-phone reception, presumably.)

Can you post some pics of your various Command Post elements? It's always interesting to see how others approach creating these vignettes. To date, I've just created one CP (Gen) element, and have posted pics of it before, but here's Prophet again, sitting on a pile of pillows, as he commands his III/25a Arab Conquest army. The army-list rubric suggests the General should be properly be in a black tent. I opted not to take it quite so literally.

...another disadvantage?😊
As I admitted, I've never encountered one...I checked the combat stats whilst blinkered and only saw how hard it would be to kill one in a BUA.😆

Great photo of your CP Paul! Always enjoy the eye candy.
I've enjoyed reading the various posts. I tend to think of the CPs as providing some interesting modelling possibilities and not being as useful on the table. But I'm continuing to experiment...

here are my attempts - but they look sad next to what you turn out. You and Tony Aguilar (who is painting Nan Chao in parallel to me) are both putting me to shame
from L-R Arab Conquest, Norse Irish, Konstantinian Byzantine
I think you can view them full size by clicking on them
I am still trying to get the hang of putting pictures into the new fanaticus

No apologies needed, Macbeth. Thanks for posting the pics. They look splendid. Love the color palette, flags, et al. Armies with CP elements are indeed a to-do list for me. Next up will probably be the IV/59b PM Sammies. Big project that army, though.

Next up will probably be the IV/59b PM Sammies. Big project that army, though. Yes - the Later Post Mongol Samurai are a heartbreaker - This army was my last DBA2.2 project, I started it in early May 2011 and finished the last element at the end of May last 2015. Of course during that time there was the arrival of DBA3 and the shake up to almost all of my modest stable of armies. I continued with the Samurai in 2.2 form whilst continuing with other projects - several other armies were started and completed before the last Samurai rolled off the line, and I have also made a substantial dent in bringing my existing armies up to code
My Samurai need 2x6Cv, 1xCP, 1x3Pk, 1x4Bw and 4x3Bd to meed the DBA3 standards in full.
At the present time I am trying to bring my stable of Yuan era armies up to code - thus far the Yuan, Southern Sung, Koroyo Korean, Khmer, Malay/Sumatran, Hindu Indian (other) and Javanese are all done - with the Burmese, Early Samurai, Uighur Turk, and Mongol Conquest being battle ready (I have the 12 elements that I wish to field complete)
This just leaves the Medieval Vietnamese, Siamese and Nan Chao to cobble together Nan Chao is half done - finally painting the Eureka figs I purchased when the 300 club proposal came to fruition Siamese is being rebuilt with a mix of Khurusan and Irregular figs - my original Siamese was made up of cast of Falcon Indonesians and Outpost and Hall of Ancient Warriors Khmer - I may have also used some Maiden Guard from Tin Soldier Medieval Vietnamese is crying to be re-done
Cheers

Great photo of your CP Paul! Always enjoy the eye candy. I've enjoyed reading the various posts. I tend to think of the CPs as providing some interesting modelling possibilities and not being as useful on the table. But I'm continuing to experiment... A possible tactical use for CP's (as well as Litter and CWg's) came to me during, of all places, choir-practice this evening: Providing Flank Support to Solid Bow elements. CP's, Litters and CWg's are all " treated as Solid Blades" (page-4). Ergo, it must follow then that CP's, Litters and CWg's can lend Flank Support factors to Spears and Solid Bows (page-11), right? Perhaps, players more seasoned with V-3 than I long ago picked up on this nuance. Assuming it's Kosher, let's see what l now have to look at what armies have the rare combination of a CP, Lit, or CWg Gen AND Solid Bows or Spears. Here's a start at such a list... - I/2a Early Egyptian (Lit Gen & Solid Bows)
- III/16 Khazar (CWg & Spears)
- III/76 Konstantinian Byzantine (CP & Solid Bows, Spears)
- III/77 Papal Italian (Lit Gen & Solid Crossbows, Spears)
- IV/3 Anglo-Norman (CWg & Spears)
- IV/59b Post-Mongol Samurai (CP & Solid Bows)
- IV/83b WOR Rebel Army of Henry Tudor (CP & Solid Longbows)
Maybe there are a few others?

Found another with this Flank Support option: - III/73ab Communal Italian (CWg & Spears and/or Solid Crossbows)
