Great weekend of games. What an inopportune moment for the pike to support Lysimachus. The Muses were at their best. Neither of us had seen considered the situation would develop as it did. It was very amusing to say the least.

A nice series of games Keith. Cheers, Thanks Greg. It was a very enjoyable weekend of gaming. Joel is a bit limited with DBA gaming opponents as he lives south of Auckland. Hopefully he will be able to get some more games in the following few months. He and Mark used to play frequently when he lived in Auckland.

A game down at one of the local clubs this evening where I commanded the Carthaginians while another opted to use my Polybian Romans. A fascinating game where we both suffered from a shortage of PIPs.

What's the gaming surface you use, Keith? Is it 2' flocked squares or a textured material?

By Zeus, that was a bold step for your general to use elephants as “bookends”.

It is the only product I have which is made by a fantasy supplier. It came as a 6'x4' mat and I chopped it up for DBA and BBDBA. It folds up nicely and is very transportable. I bought several a few years ago.

By Zeus, that was a bold step for your general to use elephants as “bookends”. It wasn't meant to be like that! The elephants were originally together and of course attracted the attention of Roman velites. I pulled one elephants out of the line and replacing it with the general to hopefully ride at least some of the velites down. Eventually the retired elephant was put back into the line on the other side of the general. The photos, to an extent, show this as in one an elephant is some distance back.

I bought several a few years ago. I got one a few years ago. At that time they had a thick paper backing rather than cloth. I ended up cutting it up to stick on a 3' by 5' board primarily for double-sized DBN games using 60mm bases.

My ones have a black cloth backing. When I travel to my sons I flood it and put it with my main bag. On arrival the creases are gone in a few minutes.
I'm not sure if they are made any more, but if they are I would recommend them.

Down at the local wargames club this evening several people were again playing DBA. For my part I was fortunate to play two very enjoyable Successor battles. A couple of photos of each game are below.

Looking at your game photos has moved me to contemplate expanding the Seleucid collection to include more enemies. Focusing on the period of Antiochus III does not help either as his reign straddles two sub-lists, II/19 b and c (223 – 187 BC).

Our Empire Campaign continues with a clash between Polypechon and Cassander in 306BC. Polypechon ruler of Macedonia, having defeated Lysimachus in Thracia has turned his attention to Cassander who maintains a fragile control over parts of Graecia. Advancing into Attica the two armies clashed in a desperate battle.
