What is that electric lime green thing on the lower left of the photo?
Too bad about Richard III getting rubbed out.

As lesp1964 mentions it is a measuring template produced I believe in limited quantities for the Society of Ancients and marked at various 40mm base width intervals. I don’t believe they can be purchased unfortunately.
Richard will return...

If need be I will form the New Zealand branch of the Richard III Society. Keith, if you call it the ANZAC branch I'll definitely join. Cheers,

Keith, if you call it the ANZAC branch I'll definitely join. In my local DBA group Richard seems to be the focus of several jokes, especially by one good natured new DBA player who has a Tudor army but has yet to use it. I’m not that much of a fan of Richard, but with one local Tudor army still “on holiday in France” I must play the role of Richard. I must admit the Tudor army I encountered last night was more powerful than I expected. I had foolishly expected pike armed mercenaries. However, when we next catchup Greg perhaps we should have an ale for Richard.

I should point out Keith, that Lorraine and I stayed in the Richard III room at the hotel, pub in fact, whilst in Warwick. The hotel dated back to the mid 15th century.
Cheers,

Good write up and with some nice looking armies.
Always love when you have a tough element that seems to defy the odds like that cav. unit of yours.

Good write up and with some nice looking armies. Always love when you have a tough element that seems to defy the odds like that cav. unit of yours. Thanks for the feedback. It’s pleasing to know people enjoy these rambling photo reports. The game was full of these “determined” elements. The Gallic cavalry for example ended up fighting two deep light horse and hard flanked. They fought them off for three turns and then forced them back. A standoff then existed for a while until later the light horse attacked again but in this attack one of the light horse was cut down. It is hard to capture all this in a game report so I have instead only tried to capture some of the defining moments of the game.

An enjoyable DBA game tonight with my Gauls clashing with my regular opponent’s Later Carthaginians. The Carthaginian attack on the Gallic right despite early success stalled. Both commanders now focussed in the centre where Punic spear supported by Spanish and horse clashed with the Gallic foot. Eventually the Punic centre collapsed and a Gallic victory seemed possible. However, on the Gallic left the warriors were unable to halt the final Carthaginian onslaught. As the Gallic flank unraveled the Gallic army disintegrated. A narrow Punic victory had been achieved. Another great mid-week game.
