Hi all I've been bought some figures as a present, but, as usual, I'm completely stumped as to what they are. Apparently, they are supposed to be 'Roman', but I've had no luck in searching for them amongst the manufacturers I know, although they might be figures which have no accompanying pictures. Has anyone got any idea as to what they might be? They have an oval shield, what appears to be a separate central body armour - possibly supposed to be leather - and what appears to be an aventail, although it could just be hair. Any information will be gratefully received - again, as usual! Cheers

The figure has the characteristics of a Minifig casting. Does the underside of the base have a manufacturing code?

I thought Minifigs, but there are lots of figures listed on their web site without photos. Sadly, there are no codes: the bases have been filed flat by a previous owner, otherwise I'd have stood a slight chance on my own.

Is this 15mm or 25mm? I'm guessing 25mm because that figure does not look familiar.

From the figure on top of the helm the spearman appears late Saxon (Dark Ages), however, the nasal guard would seem out of place.

That's what I first thought, but on closer inspection it's actually a small crest, not a Saxon figure. I think you can see now why I'm confused!!

I would go for them being Byzantine, note the plume has the same two colours as the shield. Do not know the make at all, sorry.

I've still got an army of 25mm Lamming Nikephorians, based for 6th edition, that saw a lot of action in their day.

In that case, I'll treat it as a 'Belisarian' infantryman. Or maybe slightly later.
Thanks for the answers!

Did we get an answer to Tony's scale question? It's a 25mm dude, right?

I agree with David... Byzantine....
Though I remember this fig from years ago. Was it part of a Fantasy line?

It's 25mm. It doesn't look right for most of the old fantasy figures I'm aware of. Slightly small and not highly sculpted. Unless it's one of the old Minifigs 'fantasy' range.

Hi Guys,
It is indeed a fantasy figure. if you look on the back corners it is stamped SS and looks like 27. This is a figure from the old Minifigs 25mm Sword and Sorcery range. These were modelled to represent the different nations of RE Howard's Hyperboria aka Conan's world. You can probably look it up on one of the many sites that cover old gaming figure ranges from the 1970's.
