Greeting all, I have been AWOL since DBA3 came out, no because I dislike DBA 3, but I moved out of Melbourne to a retirement are by the sea and have no one to kill lol.
Did DBA 3 take off?, how is the health of DBA currently? ...anything I should know?. regards Kingo

DBA 3.0 seems settled more now with less wrangle over the differences with previous versions. Plenty of competitions seemed to be advertised. Myself, I have spent a great deal of time building my English Civil War forces and fighting Skirmish and medium size battles using a varity of rules including DBA-RRR. As I play solo moving to a retirement area on the coast would suit me fine!

Hi Kingo
DBA3 has now become the DBA of choice in the ACT - My two tournaments have been running DBA3 since May 2015 and in that time numbers have bumped up slightly. Landwaster last November had 20 entries. Cancon 2017 had nearly 30 playing DBA over two days.
Cheers

DBA 3.0 seems to be doing well in the UK.
We have an increased number of tournaments and attendance at each has been gradually rising. My own (Mercian DBaA in Coventry) has risen from 14 to 20 in the three years I've been running it. 20 seems commonplace now in many tournaments and larger than that we are likely to have step up from the church/community halls that are generally used. The atmosphere at the competitions seems gentle and supportive. The standard of painting and modelling seems to be on the up. Check out the photos from recent competoitions over on the Yahoo group, there is some lovely stuff out there.
I'm not aware of anyone still running competitions with 2.2 here.

Here is an interesting statistic, regarding the rules used in SOA championship. I am surprised by how many Armati there are. I thought they were long gone. I never see them listed in USA conventions. www.soa.org.uk/joomla/2016-rule-sets-used

One almost wonders if the colour coding for Armati and ADLG have been got the wrong way round!

One might think so, but it's really a reflection of input- One of the SoA members (Roy Boss) is a keen Armati player, who actively submits games from UK tournaments on behalf of players at those events. Another is a keen DBA player, who likewise cajoles and encourages players to join in (wonder who that is?). Menacussecundus from this forum did a grand job of supporting DBA in the Championship in 2016, being out in the lead for a while, and is also very active this year. Championshp winner 2016 was Diades from this forum.

It is heartening to see DBA's standing. I am also very pleased that Armati is being played. I have a very soft spot in my heart for that game.

DBA-2 still has its proponents among those of us who gather every couple weeks here with NAGS in Seattle, but DBA-3 is being played increasingly often here; probably the majority of games here are now DBA-3. Even those who lean towards 2.2 concede that there are many notable innovations and improvements to the game in "Purple", as well as more interesting army-lists.
Wisely, we've all agreed to get along. I'll play both, although I personally prefer DBA-3. With a core group of just six or so players, a fractious schism over which flavor of rules to play would be the end of our group. It's just a game. Play on!

The UK tournament scene is almost exclusively v3 now. The current Society of Ancients UK DBA League for the Nov '16 to Oct. '17 season has 13 tournaments listed, all of which are v3.

(The Armati League mentioned had West London, Bournemouth, Glasgow, Manchester and Derby venues in the last account I could find-2013)
