during a recently played DBA game, my opponent's carolingian knights attacked and captured the camp of my later visigoths and I was down 0 -2. In gaming terms I did not like this to happen, but from an aesthetic point of view, the situation on the board looked quite attractive: Two carolingian knight elements have successfully concluded their flank march with the capture of my camp. In the center of the picture you can see my lone element of bows, initially placed as a flank guard, which has taken shelter in the woods. Just only visible in the background are the two main battlelines. It is there that the game was decided. Indeed, I realized that there sometimes are such special wargaming moments, I would like to preserve. So I rummaged through my pictures of DBA and other wargames, looking for those special moments and puta small number of them together on the Wargaming Moments page of my MiniMaerk blog. I am sure you have seen and experienced such 'magic' or just 'special' situations - and maybe you are willing to share them here? best, Maerk

I had a similar feeling when an Ancient British Army ruptured my Early Imperial Roman line. The British light horse harassed and drew off the Roman Auxilia whilst the chariots kept the Roman Cavalry busy.
The Celtic warband then struck destroying the Roman cohorts and over running the artillery.
Unlike you i did not have the presence of mind to take pictures!

Oh, my... Where to begin. This fair hobby or ours has given me many such moments. Here are but a few, in no particular order. No.1 -- Playing Hordes of the Things outdoors in a Calgary snowstorm. (+7C / +19F at the time) My evil NATIONAL ANTARCTIC PENGUINIST LEAGUE of NEUSCHWABENLAND army faces off in a polar war (in Arctic conditions!) against a good, Eskimo army. No.2 Not wanting the fun of another ENFILADE to end, a few of us set up outside the venue and played on. Distinguished guests, Don Ray (Calgary) and David Kuijt (Maryland) are at right. (Note Gary Pomeroyq's die-roll, caught in air.) No. 3 The famous "Battle of the Sugar Packets vs. the Coffee Creamers". Also ENFILADE 2008, when DK gave us all a tutorial in Pike tactics. No.4 Any game played with my nearly lifelong best friend, Eric Donaldson (right). Here we're enjoying a game of Tony's DBA-RRR in 25mm in our Gazebo on a lovely summer's day. Can't help but notice that nearly all these special moments were experienced outdoors. Interesting...

I take it your better half doesn't allow you and your hobby indoors then!

Paul, great to see those shots (even if I've never met anyone in them!). I made much of David's article on pike tactics back in the 2.2 days! Somehow I could never get my Low Countries pike to prevail over my regular opponent's Burgundians - but I cam close once or twice. Great to see the HotT in the Snow shot too. I recall a post on the old Fanaticus site of a game in the snow at at Calgary (same meet?) with an excellent Estonian army - bare winter woods and snow terrain (covered by the real thing). I've wanted a similar army ever since and carried around a bag of Estonians (unpainted) for years, as a result. Even when my DBA collection dwindled to almost nothing just prior to 3.0, I always hung onto them. Think I'm about ready to get them on the painting table! Maerk, a visually great moment, but I feel your pain. For me, a great memory was the first run of my Dacian army which cut a swath through some Early Imperial Romans with their falxes. See: senlachill.blogspot.com.au/2011/04/dacians-versus-early-imperial-romans.htmlShouldn't have sold them! Cheers Alan
