This past Saturday David Crenshaw and I got together for a few games of HotT, which is always fun when the games are between us, as they are usually more of a marathon than quick game. And this certainly applies to our first game. Having finished my first two Weird WW2 armies I have been anxious to see how they played and if I had them balanced enough. So I requested we give them a try – Captain Miller and the rest of the Hollywood army taking on the evil Red Skull and his dastardly minions! I allowed David first choice and his true dark side sprang forth as he picked the general with the serious sun tan …. or was it a sunburn!!! So it was David with the Red Skull army and I had the Hollywood US army lead by Captain Miller of the 2nd Rangers. Here is the view from the Snoopy blimp – Red Skull at the top as the defender with the bunker Stronghold from “Devil Rock”. Captain Miller at the bottom. And here’s the ground level view of Red Skull’s deployment – as if that was going to do him any good!!!! And the crowd cheers for the good guys! Captain Miller’s army with Captain America’s men on the right flank (nearest the camera). You can see Captain American in his blue helmet and also Sgt. Joe Gunn’s Lulubelle. And to quote an old friend – “the game is afoot”! You can see Red Skull’s Terror Bird Flier advancing along with some of the Werewolf Brigade on Captain Miller’s right flank. Meanwhile Captain Miller’s Rangers with Upham and Sgt, John M. Stryker’s Marine Devil Dogs are advancing through the woods on the left.

That Pesky Terror Bird sitting on Captain Miller’s right flank was just not going to do, so he sent orders for Pvt. Ryan along with Henderson and Toynbe (a Shooter element) to move out and take care of it. You can see in this Snoopy blimp shot that Ryan has started his move toward the Terror Bird, while Red Skull has sent his heavy hitters – the Death’s Head Legion and his own personal Hydra Guard forward. Lulubelle looks a little lonely out there all by herself, but from experience she’s used to that. And the Hollywood left flank is beginning to stir! And then out of the sky – The BIG hand appeared. But it probably didn’t give Red Skull the results he wanted as he found his Terror Bird out of command range! You can see the element of the Werewolf Legion has advanced to the edge of the woods, but still cowering back (gosh, it’s great to be the one wirting the history!!!), and PFC Ryan is advancing down the slope of the hill to put “PAID” on that Terror Bird!!! Yep, things have really started to get ugly on the Hollywood left flank and even Lulubelle has had to join the struggle. Here you see Lulubelle with support taking on the Dino-Panzers of red Skull’s army, with the Panther Lehr just behind – but a 5 to 2 combat sounds just like the kind of trap Joe Gunn would set up! Sgt Stryker and his Devil Dogs are holding on the far left.

Nope, it was only a push back forcing the Panther Lehr (Beast) to also back pedal a bit. And then a futile attempt to turn the advantage around the Nazi Zombies from Dead Snow have charged forward to attack some of Capt. Miller’s men, and to help the Dino-Panzers against Lulubelle. The of the Werewolf Brigade who had advanced were handily dealt with by 2nd Rangers and the Devil Dog Marines. Things start seeming a little grim and even Red Skull (Magician) has had to join in the fray, helping the Nazi Zombies attacking the other element of Captain Miller’s men and Upham. Corporal is no longer having to try and find his bravery and threw himself fully into the fight.

Meanwhile, Lulubelle is being hard pressed by those troublesome Dino-Panzers who have now got the aid of the Panther Lehr. With Lulubelle also getting some assistance from the 2nd Rangers it was a sure thing that somebody was going down…..and OH NO! What’s this – Sgt. Gunn rolled a 1 against a 5 and crumbles in the dust! What a sad, so sad day for the Hollywood army. But the battle rages on. The fight is pretty evened up at this point and after Red Skull and the Nazi Zombies dealt an underhanded blow against the other 2nd Ranger element with Upham, Captain America and Captain Miller could just not take it any longer! So they have now joined the fight in the flesh and are going to put paid to one set of Nazi Zombies (Warband). Red Skull as usual is trying to stay away from any combat by enjoying the view from atop a hill. Oh no!!!! More sad news as the Dino-Panzers have driven Sgt. Stryker and his boys off the edge of the world! OH! The shame of it all!!!! But now it’s payback time and Capt. Miller is about to give Red Skull’s Hydra Guard a quick lesson in fighting techniques, while Capt. America’s Howling Commandos are putting the very same truth to the remaining Nazi Zombies and an element of the Death’s Head Legion. The Score is now 10 to 6 in Capt. Miller’s favor.

And the final hammer falls as Red Skull too late thinks about plodding down off the hill to help his faltering army. But too late it is and his Hydra Guard goes down under the onslaught of Capt. Miller with Sgt. Horvath, and some of the Howling Commandos. For me this was a great game and I was very pleased with how each army played. David is a most qualified opponent and this one could have gone either way. One thing I realized during play was that my Hollywood army is heavy in special units, while red Skull only has one – Red Skull, so there were more Red Skull elements than Hollywood. But in the end, yet once again Good prevailed over Evil. But I feel like Red Skull will most likely be back again some day! Next we decided to bring out two of our favorite armies – Narnia. David fielded his army of Aslan while instead of my fielding Queen Jadis, Queen of all Narnia, I fielded the army of The Lady in the Green Kirtle. This time I was the defender so I got to use my Queen Jadis Stronghold for the first time. Here are the initial deployments from the Snoopy blimp - Aslan’s forces at the top, and my Lady’s forces at the bottom. You can see David’s wonderful Lamp post in the woods at the top, and my army on either side of a bad going hill, with my Lady on the hill proper. A ground level view of Aslan’s forces. And a view of my Lady’s forces.

The troops did a little maneuvering during the first couple of turns, but it seems the Kings of Narnia ventured just a little too carelessly forward and my Lady (Magician) cast a spell, ensorcelling them and ended the game without further ado. Of course my Lady’s troops were disappointed, and only the promise of another game seemed to quell their anger. So we played one more game, again Narnia, using the same forces, only David was the defender and set the terrain. But first, here is a picture of David’s lovely Narnia lamp post and a deer figure equally as beautifully done. The battle begins and both sides try to maneuver to advantage, but it seems the battle is going to be fought in the center this time. Here you can see some of the Narnian bullies ganging up on some of my Lady’s Gentle Folk of Narnia!

Then the unheard of happened – my Lady in her anger at the Narnians bullying her people ensorcelled herself!!!!! And things just went down hill from there for my Lady’s army. it was sad, so sad an affair. My Lady’s people decide to take a day of fun and innocent pleasure in the lovely spring air, only to be set upon by Narnian ruffians!!! So after my Lady rolled two ones in a row thus preventing her being able to move any troops, the Narnian hooligans stormed over the gentlefolk and here the final hammer fell. And to close out this report, I have to share a picture of David’s really nice Stronghold – the broken table with Aslan, Susan and Lucy. Well, I can say that if one has to lose, then losing to Aslan cannot be a bad thing! So that brought the day to an end, but what an enjoyable afternoon, as gaming with David or any of the Nashville DBA group always is. But not to let any of these “nice” words fool you, my Lady will get her revenge – all in due time! Terry

Thanks for the report Terry. Great read as usual. Good to see the Snoopy Blimp in action again, but missed Bert. I hope he isn't unwell?
Cheers, Barry

Thanks Barry, It was some fun games, and not to fear the Snoopy blimp is still on the job. And as for Bert, well, he too is in there. If you look real close you'll see him. You know, sort of the the "Where's Bert" thing!!! Yeah, I need to get him back in action don't I.
