Who is buying what?
That is the question...
Picked this lot of Mike's Models packs up (once again) off the TMP Marketplace -
AP 205, 231,285,325 MP59,63 MO 5 WP 3, 5(2x), 12 (2x) 19(2x), 38,45,47,58,61 RP113, 145, 245 Bag of misc unknown cav ( primed and part painted)
TTG HAO 7 ( 4x)
I knew the RP codes were still up at Essex, but but the rest are a mystery. Pictures were sent by the seller after I expressed interest, but are a bit fuzzy so still a bit of a mystery as to what I am getting. Although I believe the 'A' is for 'Ancient' and the 'M' for Medieval.' Not quite sure about the 'W.'
On the other hand, $20 plus shipping (another $15 - medium flat rate) for 19 packs of Mike's plus the bag of 'unknown' cavalry (20 count according to seller) and 4 packs of TTG Han Crossbow (looked like 12 packs in the picture) seemed like too good a deal to pass up.
To my knowledge Battleline in New Zealand is the only current source for the TTG Han, so those packs are a major plus for the deal.
Supposed to mail today, so should be getting the package early next week. Anticipation...

The sheer joy we get at purchasing something we may or may not need. You may be super lucky and get a single pack of a random army that leads you on to purchase an entire new army.

I currently own 6 ancient armies (mainly 2nd Punic war era), I’ll receive my 7th ancient army, museum miniatures Spartans, next week. I also have a Teutonic army (my only medieval army) and I am jumping a bit more into section 4 with the IV/74 Free company !
I chose museum minis again as I really like their mounted and dismounted knights 👍 (DBA virus is back)

Still hesitating between Museum Miniatures and Khurasan: their HYW range is pretty awesome.
Does someone have some feedback on those two manufacturers (average size or tend to b big compared to others)? Most of my 15mm are Essex and my Teutonics are mirliton.

The only figures from Khurasan that I have are Tang spear which are noticeably larger than the old Essex Tang. I believe that Khurasan has used different sculptors so ranges likely differ.
On the other hand, I do have a number of the Museum codes.
They started fairly well eariier figures, but have gotten larger with the latter additions.
Xyston large 18mmish.The Welsh longbow I have make their Essex compatriots look like adolescents in comparison and so with many of the other codes.
An older foot knight - MD-14 (marked on the base - now an MD-44 in the catalogue) - is noticeably smaller than his newer MD-15 and 16 fellows.
Another consideration is that a number of the mounted have leveled or nearly leveled lances which make it awkward to make front edge contact.
There are a number of museum codes that I will be picking up in the future to flesh out armies, but I find the HYW (as with many of the Xyston codes) to have too much scale creep for my taste.
Pity as I have had very good service from Museum when I have ordered from them.

They are like Pokémon - gotta catch em all.
Cheers

My DBA/HotT existence has been in stasis for quite a few years. I found an Essex Athenian army and a Corvus Belli Iberians that had been unopened in storage for likely a decade. I bought a set of V.3 rules.
In the past few weeks I've bought: II/49 Marian Roman; IV/53 Mixtec; IV/63 Aztec; II/39 Celtiberian. All these are V.2 armies I got for a decent price. My first packaged V.3 army is IV/68f Spanish Army 1504-1515.

Following the French Ordonnance and Italian Condotta, the Spanish (68f) and Portuguese (68b) are next on the restoration project. The six test games were a lot of fun.

I was going through the lead mountain this weekend and found a pack of Xyston Kapadokian Hillmen. I think it was a flea market buy when I was looking to build a Macedonian and Persian armies. Still needs fleshed out. Can the Kapadokians be used for anything else besides a Kapadokian army?

The tiara headdress marks them uniquely Cappadocian, however, filing the folds away might give you a Gallic helmet. As is, they could serve with a Mithradatic army as auxilia.

"W" codes refer to Mikes Models' Fantasy range, loosely based on Lord of the Rings. AP 205 - Successor pikeman astride elephantAP 231 - Sassanid Persian light javelinmanAP 285 - Libyan spearman [from their Carthaginian range. BTW, this figure is a real gem, I think.]AP 325 - Achaemenid Persian chariot driverMP 59 - Medieval miner with shovel [I've used some of these in Camps, shoveling horse dung.] MP 63 - Medieval man at arms scaling ladderMO 5 - Renaissance musketeer in montero hat and cassockWP 3 - Tower guardsmanWP 5 - Armoured spearmanWP 12 - Mounted nobleWP 19 - Mounted wizardWP 38 - Mounted armoured archerWP 45 - Female armoured wenchWP 47 - South coast pirate, cutlass and knifeWP 58 - Hillman throwing rocksWP 61 - Half orc with scimitarRP 113 - Polish guardsman with halberdRP 145 - Landsknecht provost with axeRP 245 - Irish Kern / Bonnachts with javelin--Info from my 1982 Mikes Models catalog.

Thanks muc, paul - to be frank I was hoping you would be able to assist in the IDs.the
The WP codes were definitely a puzzlement...
For a lot of unknown figures from out of production lines one can at least go to the various WRG Armies and Enemies books to see what they are supposed to be.
As a bonus the fellow threw in an AE-13 which is obviously a Howdah. Pity no elephants to go with the howdah or pikemen. As to the miscellaneous cavalry, some are obviously Sassanid lights while the bulk mush be from the fantasy line. If I get a chance I will post a picture.
Again, much appreciated - I am still awaiting a response from Essex as to whether they still had an archive of the Mike's catalog.
WP-45 not very PC - Female Armored Wench. Also a bit redundant, although in the current climate I suppose one might have to specify???

Yes, AE 13 is a Successor howdah, not to be confused, of course, with AE 14 Sassanid howdah. Let me know if you would like a soft-copy of a Mikes Models catalog, in spreadsheet format.
