Fab, The solution that is shown is the solution from 2.2 by the way. Did LH get rear support in 2.2?

No light horse support. I thought this was an issue of who backs up, not who gets support. In 2.2, the attacker backs up if it can. In answer to the previous question, when A line contacts The side of a column, all elements in legal contact conform, others fall in behind the legal contacts.

As it turns out, after posing the question, I found the relevant diagram in the current 3.0 rules. The salient feature I guess being "in contact". This leads me to ponder the diagram of a BW wide flank attack on a column several stands deep. I can only assume that the column would be broken up and those stands not contacted would remain in their current position. Cheers, Fred

I think I may have found a solution to Genoansteel’s original situation.
There appears to be a ‘hidden’ rule in DBA 3.0 which is that conforming does not split a group. (Please see the “An Unwritten Rule – Splitting A Group” thread for full details...although this is still currently under debate)
If this is correct, and conforming does not force a group to split up, then instead of the centre spear element making room by moving back (thereby splitting the spear group), the entire spear group stays together and ALL the spears move back.

I like your thinking here Stevie. Joe Collins

A good question for the FAQ group. I don't think we can play with hidden rules :-)
