The Dwarves Dwarves of the Witcher continent are not unlike those found in other Fantasy novels. They are of stocky build, short, bearded and they make excellent soldiers, artisans and businessmen. Their homeland on the continent is found among the Mahakaman mountains yet many left the region to find new homes in the Northern kingdoms.
As craftsmen, merchants and bankers they were better accepted among the human communities than the Elves. During the first and second Nilfgaard wars, a number of units fought as mercenaries alongside the armies of the North.
During the third Nilfgaard-Nordling war a period of prosecution ignited among the humans wanting to drive all non-humans out of their communities. Offering resistance meant an escalation of violence. During this same period of persecution, the Scoia’tael or guerrilla fighters were filled with young fighters of the other Old Races willing to fight against the humans, such as the dwarves, gnomes and Halflings.
The Dwarves. 8 – 12 Dwarf warriors (4Bd) 2 – 4 Dwarf crossbow (4Cb) Test games – a battle report.

The essential posts have been transferred from the old site to here.
There remain one or two test battles but there will be more added here.
A brief status report and photos of the campaign map are also at the old site, but as Project Rome nears its completion I can return to this project with new ideas.

Great work as always. The painting is top tier. Thanks txwargamer,
Since my last post I have added another army to paint for Project Rome, the Bactrian Greek.
However, the campaign rules, currently in use for the Punic Wars are being revised so they may be used for this project. When complete we can begin with the Southern Conquest campaign or the Nilfgaard expansion.

Just read the first book in the seiras. Good read and a good setting for Fantistorical games.
Keep up the great work.

The Witcher Project – the campaign
Readers of the Witcher Project may remember my having taken a step back from continuing with the development of a campaign rule set as it became overly complicated. The armies were completed, maps were made and four scenarios were ready for testing, but the rules truly needed a re-examination.
Rather than set myself in a situation filled with stress, I moved from the fantasy world to the ancient period and developed a basic campaign set that experienced a number of evolutions through 2016. The final product is a two page campaign rule set, available for download at the DBA Fanaticus Wiki, and with one page of optional stratagems our ancient games were flourishing.
While writing this, I took time to review the original Witcher campaign rules and decided I need not continue with these but will use the ancient rule set together with the first Witcher scenario, the Southern Conquest. If you have read the books then you are aware of the similarities between the witcher world and the Holy Roman Empire or better, the commercial centres, banking houses and noble families of Renaissance Italy.
This aspect to the campaign design fascinated me as players would be confronted with economic and social challenges in addition to the usual military campaign.
Sharing my time in the coming months is a similar campaign project set in the gunpowder era. To keep posts separate and convenient for the reader to return to, all developments for the Witcher project will be posted (here) to the fantasy section of the DBA Fanaticus Forum.

Witcher Project Update 08-07-2017
The ‘Under the Black Banner’ project has stalled due to delivery problems so I have shifted my energy to a long awaited return to the Witcher.
The campaign rules are in the process of revision – make that overhaul. As a result, all maps will need to be changed. Integrating the role of sorcery and the presence of beasts will demand a long period of testing, but this should be fun.
Since December all terrain features have been redone and made standard for all geographical types. But there are a few special items that will be taken care of in the next few weeks; White Orchard (hamlet) and ships.
Note:
I have noticed the disappearance of photos due to a policy change by Photobucket. Fortunately, I do not use their service much, but will look to another solution in the coming week.

The Witcher Project
As a result of a policy change by Photobucket, many of my photos which used this service are no longer viewable, therefore, I have decided to take a pragmatic approach and add the Witcher Project to the Storm Within the Empire blog.
In the coming weeks there will be an influx of fantasy related posts appearing in rapid succession. Readers will be able to track earlier postings by using the ‘index’ located on the right hand side of the page. dbagora.blogspot.nl/2017/07/the-witcher-project.html
