Tropical foliage
While making terrain mats and new pieces, I discarded many unsuitable items. In that category, were very large based jungle foliage; not particularly useful for DBX. From these, I salvaged its components, but needed something to fill the gap between undergrowth and palm trees. Solution found. dbagora.blogspot.com/2022/01/tropical-foliage.html Nicely done with the recycling Robert. Cheers,

I decided to start afresh with the sea mat and gave it an undercoat and different shade of blue. Next step, sponge work with light blue and blue green, this should be completed this evening.
Land tiles are painted, but will need to be cut to size, however, the last pieces will need some thought, shallow water and sand banks.

These were the last of the 144 palm trees and the Christmas wreath is now fully based.

The sea mat is done, but the tiles are not the solution I was looking for. Time to step back from the work, clear the head, and the solution will come.
Time for some games on the newly made terrain mats.

Magnus Maximus 388 AD
The Battle of Poetovium was fought on the new terrain mat and it was a pleasure to use. The game took a few minutes to set up, then Theodosius and his rival, Magnus Maximus, were fighting for the throne. Battle report and photos can be found at the blog. dbagora.blogspot.com/2022/01/maximus-usurper.html

The Kurdish troops (4 x 3Kn... Robert, sorry for dredging up such an old post... What's your sense for how much horse armor for the Dynastic Kurdish Knights? --I'm thinking some horses with full, chain-mail horse barding, but others with none. What did you do?

Paul,The mix of horse armour and none would be one way to discern Kurdish troops from their hosts. Mine have banners to set them apart, but pennons on a few lances would also do the trick.

Battle of Autun 725 AD
During Charles’ Bavarian campaign, the Saracen successfully raided Central Frankia and returned to Provence with much plunder and slaves. Creating a scenario for Autun, based on obscure information, has its challenges, such as, defining a battlefield and the composition of both armies. Some scenarios prove elusive, such as this one. dbagora.blogspot.com/2022/03/events-in-frankia-725-ad.html

First battles for the Marian Roman.
Having completed two Marian Roman armies, I decided to use both against a barbarian opponent and looking at the list of enemies, I noted the Dacian.
I remembered Caesar had planned a campaign against them, but met his end in 44 BC, so further investigation was needed.
Any conflicts found, did not reveal any details other than they met, they fought and one claimed victory. One event did offer enough to be fleshed out as a scenario – the Battle of Histria 61 BC.
Tuesday, I will post the background and the gymnastics of designing a scenario with a possible battlefield. Thursday, the battle reports with photos.

A Dacian Conflict with Rome
There are earlier incursions by the Daci into Roman occupied Greece, however, the first campaign recorded is led by Gaius Antonius Hybrida, uncle of Marc Anthony. Today’s post offers an over the shoulder view of sources found to help construct a scenario. On Thursday, the test reports with photos will be posted. dbagora.blogspot.com/2022/04/a-dacian-conflict-with-rome.html

I recently sold my Dark Age hamlet and spent today working on their replacement.
The six pieces have been cut, trimmed, covered with Milliput and scored to simulate half-timbered structures with thatch roofing.
The project was spread over three sessions which made the total effort less stressful. I will post a write up with handy tips and photos af the project this weekend.
