Teutonic Order vs the Polish
I recently finished 10 elements of German infantry as these would be needed to develop a few scenarios from the Thirteen Years War, between the Teutonic Order and Poland. Three interesting games and definitely more practice will be required. dbagora.blogspot.com/2021/02/just-test-teutonic-order.html

Just finished 4 x 4Bd and 2 x WWg plus crew making six wagons in the collection; Hussites can now be fielded. Flag staffs will be added to each wagon crew so banners will identify the army employing them; Medieval German, Hungarian, Later Polish, Hussite or Post Mongol Russian.
The blade are a mix of Museum’s medieval halberd, shot and crossbow, a few pavises will be added to finish the ‘look’. Odd enough, the same elements can be used for the Allmoge (Swedish) who employed the same mix of troop types.
The halberd wielding figure, to use an old school description, is ‘thrusting forward’ so base rear to point measures 28mm.

Pleased as punch that all late medieval figure painting is complete; flags are still an ongoing process as new scenarios are written.
At the moment, playtesting the Battle of Castillon is on the table.
The fortified camp plays an essential role in this battle, yet it is one of a number of conflicts centered on a fortified position; Murten, Hemmingstedt, Cerignola are others. How this is handled will be posted to the blog on this Tuesday.

Assaulting a fortified position – CastillonThis proved a worthwhile exercise, while no changes to the current DBA rule system were needed, the tests did reveal a number of interesting tactical methods. The results also opened an opportunity to play similar battles that would likely be given a pass, such as Hemmingstedt, Cerignola and Ravenna to name a few. dbagora.blogspot.com/2021/02/assaulting-fortified-position-castillon.html

I really like your modular palisades.
Also, your report lends nicely to doing battles, such as attempting to breach the outer walls of a city, etc..

The temporary fortifications are slowly growing; the “palisades” are in addition to the potholes made last month. I do have a similar battle in the planning, but priority must be given to those written but need testing.

The Battle of Castillon
The scenario is posted to the blog. Some options, such as artillery fire from a camp treated as if firing from a city or fort still can still be effective. Handling the loss of the franc-archers as the first casualty for the French adds and extra incentive for both sides. The debate as to where the Breton cavalry entered the field (east or west) is resolved by allowing the French player to decide before the game start. Allowing the French player to determine when the Breton contingent arrives may seem a gift, it is not. Appearing too early will allow the English to unleash a fire storm on them and too late, well, is too late. dbagora.blogspot.com/2021/02/battle-of-castillon-1453.html

Some additional thoughts about the Breton contingent.
How best to bring the Bretons into play was not an easy task, but after Formigny I would deem them as very capable of assessing battle conditions.
Therefore, the sound of the first cannon and volume of fire would signal a response from the Breton commander and covering the 1.5 km distance at a simple trot can be accomplished in less than ten minutes.
This would essentially offer the French player the ability to decide when and where to arrive in a short span of time (or bounds), the only limitation begin a poor pip score.
Lastly, there was no need to place the Breton contingent on the table, but to place them where they would be first seen by the English.
In the tests, pip expenditure for the Breton was recorded from their arrival, crossing the Lidoire, before placing them physically on the board.
This generated a level of surprise being small compensation for the immediate loss of the franc-archers at the priory early that morning.

With a little padding that would probably be an ideal article for Slingshot, Robert. (..as Castillon was recently examined in depth by Nick Harbud). Worth sending it to Justin?

Nice report on the Poles vs the Teutons (vivat Polska!).
Nice work on the Castillon scenario and report on the battles.
Apparently the francs archers are fit for a bit more than killing chickens.

Yes, the Polish are a terror when confronting the Teutonic Order. The Lithuanians took advantage of the TO malaise, but were crushed in four straight games. Changing the pace to ‘slow and steady’, game five delivered the needed win.
