'Doing a Colin' - Not quite the DBA reputation I was hoping for, but I suppose it's good to have a talent of some sort.π

What make is the Norse Irish army, which Pete won? ... Donnington Cheers Simon. Lovely figures they are too. However they nearly all have separate weapons and the tiniest separate shields I ever saw. It will need a lot of prep work even though they are lovely clean casts with hardly any mold lines to file away. Still I need something to keep me busy over the summer This is the Fourth army I have won in tournaments this year. Spookily remarkable. The Pre-Feudal Scots from Alton came ready painted (Cheers Martin - star!) and I already painted up the Maori's from HOTT Staines but have only had one game and I was fighting against them. I spent the voucher from the Welsh Open on Celtiberian's from Magister Militum - they are still on the painting tray but coming along...

Simon The photos did show that everyone had a good time despite the close quarters; not much space to set up tables and chairs. Interesting deployment of the Qaramitan armies during their civil war battle.

...and what happened to Arnaud's elephant circus? Colin Ah! for the first time in 5 years, I got my paintbrushes out, rebased, added decals, even build a nice fort model and bought a latex river. Proceeded to optimise the terrain and the army (dropped one El, added a Cv). But the universe has a wonderful sense of humor, and the dices weren't too kind (except against Phil Steele's LPIAs). Won 3, drew 2 and lost 1 (to Mark's Classical Indians). Actually that blooming river, with its meanderings, was a source of much consternation for my simple doctrine. Excellent time nonetheless, and Simon is a master organiser, well done sir. Not massively keen on 3/0/1, not sure it reduced the number of draws, but it made you feel a bit "meh" after a draw (I actually played a last bound actively trying to lose, to no avail). Also not sure there is a problem with people playing for draws. Even if there is such a problem, something like 3/0/0, or 3/1/1 might work better, as rewarding defeat more than draw is a bit perverse. But still, great fun, great place, lovely new opponents and no less lovely old ones.

But still, great fun, great place, lovely new opponents and no less lovely old ones. The only person to have got the better of the Tamil's?! That's cheered me up! Mind you I seem to remember it was nip and tuck all the way through and a lucky recoil on a blade by my bow to just behind an Elephant who was then recoiled by a Kn helped!
The scoring for draws and loses are a continual source of discussion.
My preference is Paul M's system in the Northern Cup where elements killed is added to the points for the result (4/0/1). That means a closely fought 3-3 draw is better than a 4-0 or 4-1 loss, so encourages aggressive play and a couple of hard fought draws doesn't always end your chances of overall victory.
However having lots of different types of competitions is part of the fun of the DBA scene and contributes to the enjoyment.

P. What I don't understand it how come your psychic powers of predicting the winner were so good in Sheffield, but suffered a complete reversal at Newark?
Was it the closeness of the river Trent disrupting your 'magical powers' just like it does in HOTT?
