Well, although I came second from bottom, I did learn one thing. Always make sure that you lose the game before lunch as quickly as possible. If it drags on to a draw then you end up cutting into pub drinking time! (And even Super Stevie can’t down three pints in 20 minutes! 🍺 hic! ) Me and Terry were done in ten and managed two ice cold Amstels

It’s bad enough you using MY Polybian Romans to defeat MY Cisalpine Gauls… …no need to rub it in and gloat.

Yes one advantage of my Brits being drubbed so many times is when offered Gaul or Rome, the decision was easy.

Simon declared that one of his objectives at the start of the day was to conjure up a scoring system that would handicap my chances. Well, he got it spot on... I only lost one game all day (and that was the finale) and yet still I ended up last. 3 winning draws, 1 draw draw and 1 losing draw gave this lad only 5 points all day...

So apart from “ruthless efficiency and an almost fanatical dedication to Phil Barker” what put the Myers Brothers in gold and silver on the podium?
I can see how Aztecs vs Spanish/Tlaxcallan could create problems in knowing how to deal with massed horde plus Paddy is a top tier gamer. However, Hannibal vs Rome? Why wasn’t just a case of “pick Polybian and win?” What did they do special with those armies?

Polite fyi, Myers = father son combo……
The Romans had Numidian allies… Zama.
Hannibal (Cv), 2 x El, 1 x LH, 3 x Sp, 1 x 4Ax, 2 x 4Wb, 2 x Ps
Scipio (Cv), 2 x 4Bd, 2 x 4Ax, 2 x Sp, 2 x Ps with Massinissa (Cv), 2 x LH
Hannibal defended all 3 times. Narrow waterway, edifice and dunes.
First game, Polybians under Diades’ (Myers senior) control 1-0 up at “time”. Scipio never rolled more than 3 PIPs all game… Second game Hannibal’s (Diades) littoral landing won amongst the dunes. Third game saw Roman (Paddy) Allied Numidian light horse in against the elephants…the elephants were triumphant, with ensuing mayhem.
2-0 to Hannibal!
My day also contained an excellent Cunaxa(?)..Later Achaemenid Persian civil war…horde held the enemy centre up forever allowing the left to win before opposition mounted could reach the refused right.
Sea-people invading Achaea, where my Littoral landing eventually won the day…an excellent pairing…4-3.
and War of the Roses clash, where my Yorkists got their blades amongst enemy missile troops first, but were not effective enough…the Lancastrians when they hit home turned the tables for victory.

Agree. Taking the Aux plus replacing Bd & Cav for Numidians pulled those Polybians down to Carthaginian levels.
