Could DBA be adapted to the block wargame format (like Columbia games), allowing for hidden deployment.
Unit types get revealed when they come within visual range of each other (1 BW for foot, 2 BW for mounted)
Though no step losses would be used, the rotating of the blocks would allow for DBM quality settings (S, O, I, X).
Thoughts or comments?

Hi dpd! The best thing about Columbia wargames is certainly their unique creation of fog of war. In the fanaticus.boards.net house rules are also some nice ideas how to create fog of war and elements of surprise in dba... But the main and best thing to say about dba is this: you may exploit the special abilities of your different units best if you try to think like an ancient general. That's great! The enemy attacks with elephants? Lead them away with psiloi or attack them with superior cavalry. Your Ax heavy army faces an army of heavy blades? Be faster and smarter, use your terrain and roll up his flanks or try to punch a hole into his line with your warband. Your enemy is nearly invincible on one wing? Attack the other. Too much fog of war could unhinge these game mechanics somehow, I think... But you're right: dba certainly lacks some elements of surprise. (And last but not least: I like my painted armies much more than some monochrome blocks.)
