...the reason I don't really like DBA3 is its vulnerability to house rules. The old regeenke I will in future have been used for years. Although there have always been complaints about the layout of the terrain, the rules were OK for most players. But now everyone wants personal house rules, but they should be played by everyone if possible... ...I started playing Triumph. But apart from understandable rules, there aren't even printed army lists, and now there are also contradictory additional rules, which only apply to the favorite armies of certain authors. I think I'll use DBA22 again from time to time in the future...

I think I'll use DBA22 again from time to time in the future... Just play 3.0 as written - it’s simply the best version so far of this fantastic game and there’s no need to worry about ‘it’s vulnerability to house rules’, unless you’re playing with colleagues who want to engage with this. Certainly, on the vibrant UK tournament scene, there’s generally no issue with RAW and no evidence of the need for house rules. Sure, there are aspects we can all argue about that possibly could be improved (eg. 4Ax being misrepresented, Fast Bd being too powerful, LH not being strong enough, etc…) but you get this with every Ancient ruleset ever written! I'm very much torn by 2.2 Vs 3.0. I grew up with a houee-ruled/simplified 2.2 (without knowing it) and while I like some of the changes in 3.0, like the official fast and solid designations I'm not sold on other aspects such as the changes to flanking and 'side support' that come with those designations. I'm thinking I may try some kind of 2.2/3.0 fusion with my own house-ruled and assumptions thrown in, this is no worry as I'm not intending on much more than solo play and definitely no tournaments.

I’d personally recommend playing rules as written enough to understand why things are the way they are in the new edition. It took a bit for DBA3 to click for me, but once I got why it worked the way it did, I don’t think I could switch to another variant.

...no problem if you are living in a larger town. In larger towns there are gamers. If you have no armies you can borrow an army of me and play in my castle in Zürich. Best would be to read the rules and to select an army you like. The armylists are all online at: meshwesh.wgcwar.com/home ...

...there is a simple point system using Triumph... ...there are expensive elements valid 4AP cheaper elements for 3AP. The cheapest elements for 2AP. For your army you need 48AP. So using the rules you can field a 12-element army but most armies are larger... ...the battlefield use 2:3 proportions. For your 15ers it meens: 64:96cm... ...to prepare a battle you need 2 armies with its tipical invasions rating and its tipical manoever rating. 1. Dice for the battlefield topography. The battle will be fought in the territory of the lower score. 2. Dice for the tactical advantage. 3. Dice for the number of terrain peases... ...after this starting phase you can try to win the battle...

...next... ...battle cards are used to emphasize the characteristics of certain armies. But these have to be paid for... ...to create a powerful army, it makes sense to use battle cards if, for example, the camp is better protected... ...almost all mounted troops are expensive and cost 4AP. Bad Horse only costs 3AP. Such Bad Hriegswagenden attack will be used... ...all troop types fight either in closed order or in open order but not both... ...in order to increase the number of the army, non-combat units can be positioned behind the front or in protected areas... ...only archers, artillery or war wagons have ranged combat factors. shelling by skirmishing archers; skirmishers or bow levy is counted in the melee factor...
