I dont suppose you are talking about Midland, Texas? Nope…Bakewell, English ‘Midland’ Open, previously further south, but not near Texas 🙃

Midland UK actually near California UK, but sorry not USA. Both have a border with Mexico, you never know they might become part of it yet.

A number of messages on throwing 1 and 6.
In the mid-late 70s there was an experiment done on dice throwing by the British Army. Part of the follow up tried to experiment with different results, these used the same number as both a good and bad result on different occasions. By experimentation it was found it did not have a big effect, and that having good dice was the best answer.
These experiments were still going on when the Sinclair ZX-81 came out. I used the program results in a game at the "Matador" in Birmingham, no obvious bad results, and no complaints from the players.

I was able to buy some Maccabeans from Frank Shaws estate earlier in the year. I thought it would be a fitting tribute to use them in Bakewell, I only hope they bring me all the glory and success in battle this killer army brought Frank. Oh wait................

Hi Simon, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday. This is only the second open tournament I'll have been in - I keep dashing to the rules and turning over the options. The Maccabeans look pretty challenging opponents, of course, and I gather there are likely to be oodles of elephants. Two questions:
1) Do we get to see the list of players' armies before each player decides the exact make-up of their own? (I am sure the answer to this will be no, but had to ask.)
2) What is the scoring system?
Yours,
Paul

Bakewell was my first ever tournament last year - they’re a great bunch of gamers and the brownies are excellent. Everyone was really welcoming, helpful and forgiving of my clumsy play. Have a great day. K

Thanks Ken, good advice. I've played in the Northern cup a few times and in Portsmouth with defined armies you can choose - what disconcerts me compared with those tournaments is the Open aspect - the vision of all those elephants/knights/fast blades/war wagons coming towards me over the (gentle) hill.

Paul I recall we faced off at this years Northern cup? Personally I was surprised at the variety of armies at Bakewell. If nothing else you can always trust to your dice. God luck K

For draws and losing, 1 pt per enemy equivalent enemy destroyed up to a max of 3 pts. Cheers Simon

K Remind me who you beat at your very first tournament in Bakewell last year It wasn’t me it was that infernal dice machine of yours it has rubbed all the spots off. Don’t worry about me this year; timr and I have been ‘practising’ and yesterday he killed my KnG with a Bd, more importantly he’s rolled all the ones out of his dice. have a good day - and save me a brownie!
