Seen a few threads concerning DBA on a square grid.
Anyone tried it on a hexagon grid like C&C Ancients?
The tricky part is the scale.
Hexagons overlap each other across a board and so a unit with a base width of 80 paces (5 x 80 = 400 feet) would require a hexagon with a diameter of slightly more than 92 paces, 462 feet = 400 feet / 0.866 (cos of 30 degrees)
A mile is approximately 13 base widths, or 11.25 hexagons in a straight line.
The circumference of the circle equivalent of a hexagon of 462 feet diameter would be 1257 feet (pi * 462 ft) with each of the hexagons six side having length of 209 feet or almost 1/2 a hexagon.
So a turning movement through 2 sides of the hexagon would be equal to the distance of about 1 hexagon.
No need to change any other movement rates if you assume time per bound increases from 15 minutes to 17 minute (15 / 0.866)
Bow and WWG range would not be effected, but shooting ranges of 5 bw for artillery (5 x 400 ft = 2000 ft) would be measured in 4 hexagons (2000 ft / 462 feet = 4.33 hex).
Assuming I did not make any bone headed math mistakes, any thoughts or comments?

The main thing which is speaking against the use of hexagons is:
DBA imitates the thinking of ancient generals by confronting single units. You try to find the best answer to the dispositions of the enemy.
Hexagons shift this confrontation "by half" and deny true flanks and fronts: instead of 4 sides you have got 6 sides to turn to.
It simply doesn’t fit to the rules...

Hexagons shift this confrontation "by half"
True, but don't they allow for true oblique advances?

Hexagons shift this confrontation "by half" True, but don't they allow for true oblique advances? Yes, you're right! But DBA allows this too. And it works, although the rules of conforming are a bit of a hinderance. (So players don't try it often.)

I really like C&C Ancients. So if I fancy a hex-based, simple, quick ancients game, I would prefer to play C&C rather than bother with a force fit of DBA!
Cheers
