What is your worst DBA tactical nightmare?
Finding your light horse facing massed bows…
Watching your psiloi trying to outrun knights or your solid Auxilia trying to outrun fast blades…
Being unable to deploy your close formation infantry because of the wall to wall bad going…
Well, all these and more can be part of your life’s rich tapestry if you enter The Cold Ash Clash.
With; the widest possible range of armies available, not knowing what you will be handed each round, or what you might face, and knowing that half the players have provided their army with unsympathetic terrain, the nightmare scenarios are endless! Add to this the usual vagaries of the dice god’s behaviour; let alone the risks of getting the Feng Shui wrong when you choose a gaming table… it is a wonder so many seemingly otherwise happy, cheerful, and well balanced people actually pay money to face this particular form of torture.
Seriously though, I had a great day. Thank you Diades; despite being obviously unwell and having to play to make up numbers, you ran your usual supremely well organised and managed tournament. Colin

Brilliant day thanks to Diades and his assistant. As usual I was robbed, but smiled whilst being so.

Loving the carnage, I find such events liberate me from the misery of thinking I have brought a naff list. If I lose it really isn't my fault.

Thanks Diades for a very well run tournament. You do give yourself a lot to do, having to keep tabs on army performance (best and worst), player performance, slayer points, who has played who and whatnot, oh and also having to play yourself. I hope you are having a quiet lie down in a darkened room today!
I was able to end the calendar year having taken different Armenian armies to three competitions (Cilician, Bagratid, and other Early). This is something I am unaccountably pleased about. I am now nervously eyeing up Rshtuni.
Thank you also for my opponents. I had six good games with lots of interesting chat and food for thought. Tom and I talked about going with the flow of the game sometimes trusting that luck is with you and, as a result, taking the riskier option. Perhaps a topic for another thread though.......
Cheers all.

An excellent day and nice to lose to some people I’ve not played before! Highlight of my day was watching the inexorable advance of the Burgundian ordinance over a terrain-less board towards my EIR blades and Ax only to kill my opponents general with a lucky artillery shot heading a 3 deep column - small consolation but what fun.

DBA nightmare?
Well try Nubians I/3 3000BC verses Early Burgundians IV/ 76 1471AD for your final game.
I would like to say my Nubians put up a good fight but that would be far from the truth. Despite defending with lots of ‘helpful’ terrain the set up of the respective armies meant that Nubian tactics primarily involved trying to avoid all of the Burgundian army. Sadly the two artillery pieces and three mounted elements of Burgundy shot the incompetently manoeuvring Nubians to pieces! Neither Nubian finger nor well crafted desert arrow landed on the stalwart Burgundians. Four thousand years of history proved too much for the Nubians to overcome. Disaster! Not even the dice could be blamed for the catastrophic decision making of the incompetent Numidian commander. My thanks to Patrick for not laughing.
Worse than all that was the fact that they did not even win the least successful army award.
So overall an excellent day of entertainment; mystery, comedy, tragedy and farce all in a day. What more could you ask?
Thanks as ever to Martin for organising this massively complex event and sincere thanks to all those who put themselves through the adventure known as DBA.

On the contrary sir you exploited my impetuosity very elegantly especially after rolling numerous 1’s for pips!
