The “Babylon 5” ships have now been mounted, and here is a sample.
The enigmatic highly advanced Shadow Fleet is launching an assault against
the Interstellar Alliance, led by John Sheridan, who are fighting a delaying
battle in order to buy time for the god-like Vorlons to appear (if they ever do!):-
(Note that the Shadow Vessels are black, and the colour of space, your actual space colour,
is also black…so how are you supposed to see ‘em?!)=====================================================
Playtesting the above scenario has revealed to me a rather unexpected terrain effect.
This strange phenomenon is not just confined to
SB-HoTT alone, but can also occur in
normal ordinary games of HoTT as well…although I doubt that many players have had
lots of small impassable terrain features on their wargames tables to notice it.
It’s a good idea for weak elements facing stronger foes to hide in or behind bad going.
But terrain in
SB-HoTT is random, and half of it is impassable Suns, Planets and Moons.
What use can these celestial bodies be for defence?
Well, there are two ways of placing moons (those smaller than 1,500 km are ignored).
●
●
○ ● ●
○This gives maximum coverage, This gives the same amount of
but only in two directions. cover no matter the direction.
▄▄Now consider the following arrangement:- ●
○ ▄▄The blue unit is partially behind the moon,
where it cannot be shot at nor engaged in close range close combat.
The red unit will have to go around the moon, but couldn’t attack the
blue flanks since it doesn’t start beyond the blue unit’s side edges.
However, if the red unit were in a line-astern column group, then the
single blue unit would have to do all the conforming (unless it too were
also in a line-astern column group, causing the red unit to do all the
conforming by getting those front corners touching, which it cannot
do as there just isn’t room, so the contact is illegal ).
So there you have it…’moon dancing’ like this protects you from attack,
and hiding behind a planet or moon is a common tactic in Sci-Fi settings.
