Howdy all, looking for some confirmation on the following:
When setting up terrain, the rules state that the selected terrain must include rough or bad going (page 6). When setting up in arable terrain, I assume that for these purposes that Plough can't be used to fulfil this compulsory requirement for bad or rough going, as it counts as good going... until I roll the first of depressing series of 1's for my PIP dice in the first turn as the defender. Therefore I assume that the chosen terrain has to include woods, difficult hills, boggy or scrubby?
Cheers
Phil

Page 6 states " Plough is Good Going" so yes you need some other terrain that qualifies as bad/rough or water Note that one area terrain feature can be minimum size so that could be the compulsory bad/rough bit.

An interesting aspect of the new rules is that it's possible that the battlefield will not have any rough or bad going. You must take a piece when you make your selection of required and optional pieces, but when you roll the dice for quadrants they all might end up getting the same number so only one gets placed. If the first one were a gentle hill and it took up all the space in the quadrant, that's all you can put down.

Typically this would be an area of rough going or bad going. You could also consider a waterway or river. If your opponent is littoral, or has an ally who is littoral, be cautious of a waterway. However, in other situations this may be a useful selection if you are attempting to create an open battlefield.
