Stevie's featured HotT armies of Martians and Radioactive Giant Ants have inspired me to create this thread. Here you may present your new army list of anything that can be found in those classic b picture horror movies that swarmed the cinema of the fifties and sixties. Or in some other obscure corner of the earth... My first example is The Blob
Another terrifying HotT army
24x blobs (hordes @ 1 AP)...(Yep, there is no general.)
Special rules: 1. At game start the Blob deploys only 12 of his units in one group. But instead of moving the Blob (or any parts of it) may grow in every direction (!) by 1 unit per 2 PIPs. 2. The Blob may split or unite and move separately as it wishes (usual Hd rules). 3. Every killed Blob element is put aside and counts to usual victory conditions, but the Blob player may use 2 PIPs per bound to revive and deploy one of these elements...
Now, what other terrors will be named in this thread?

Oh, I think a “ Blob” HoTT army could be more creative Brian…without changing any rules. Give ‘em three Giant Blobs (Behemoths, one being the leader), large enough to engulf a cinema. And definitely a couple of Lurker Blobs. But it’s not a well balanced army, as they have nothing for use in bad going, or to fight Aerial troops. Most of the old black and white Sci-Fi films involved giant spiders, giant sea creatures, or dinosaurs… …but in HoTT 12 of your army points must be used for 2 AP or less troops, so what would these be? Here are some ideas I’ve mentioned before taken from more modern colour Sci-Fi films:- “A Terminator Army” = skeletons painted chrome silver carrying laser pulse rifles. “A Starship Trooper Bug Army” = pretty similar to giant ants. “An Alien Army” = see khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/15mmscifi-infantry.html#alien-creatures“The Thing Army” = John Carpenter’s shape-changers set in a frozen Arctic base. “An Edge of Tomorrow Army” = where Tom Cruise keeps dying and waking up the day before the beach assault. “A Mars Attacks Army” = still looking for figures for these. …and of course, a “Day of the Triffids Army”.

My “Terminators” will be:- 1 x Hunter-Killer Tank (Behemoth General @ 4 AP)…crushing skulls beneath its tracks. 1 x Aerial Hunter-Killer (Airboat @ 3 AP)……………….…bringing death from the sky. 6 x T-800 Model 101’s (Blades @ 12 AP)………………….two silver skeletons per base with laser pulse rifles. 1 x ‘Human’ T-800 (Lurker @ 1 AP)…………….should really be a ‘Sneaker’, but HoTT Sneakers are rubbish. 1 x Pollyalloy T-1000 (Hero @ 4 AP)…………..............a lone civilian figure painted chrome silver.

Well, stevie, I was simply fascinated by the idea of forming one huge amorphous & evergrowing army of only one kind of more or less weak elements. I didn't want a balanced army but a one-sided one. And playtesting it was nevertheless quite a lot of fun! Surely, we can always be more imaginative than the old script writers! So we can certainly invent some Blob Shooters or even flying/floating elements if we feel we need them: the sky is the limit, as I like to say...

Well, if anyone gets a 'Blob' army together, bring it to Blobfest
(Conveniently, the weekend before Historicon, about an hour's drive away) (Phoenixville is very nice town - I did some serious courting of lady who lived there, decades ago, maybe I should have married her when I had chance ... )
Happy New Year ! Go Iggles !

Think it sounds like a great idea, can it spawn quicker than they can freeze it. Sounds like a special scenario

Surely, we can always be more imaginative than the old script writers! Well, if you don’t mind changing the rules, how about this:- “The Thing Army” = John Carpenter’s shape-shifter's set in a frozen Arctic base. Elements can ‘morph’ into another element type with the same AP cost… …but only if they pay 1 PIP each, don’t move that bound, and not if they are in a ZOC or touching an enemy. (Otherwise use the normal HoTT rules and have the “Thing” army consisting of only one of each troop type, that remain fixed throughout the game)

For my “ Alien” army, I’m going to have the following:- 1 x Giant Alien Queen (Behemoth General @ 4 AP)……see www.youtube.com/watch?v=j51DfrLHUek 9 x Warrior Aliens (Beasts @ 18 AP)………2 figs each: see khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/15mmscifi-infantry.html#alien-creatures 2 x immature Facehuggers (Lurkers @ 2 AP)……………………shaped like large horseshoe crabs. Their Stronghold will be opened and unopened alien egg-pods in some dark place. Having the 'Warrior Aliens' as Beasts may sound a bit weak, but they move fast, are not slowed nor penalized in bad going, and being mounted they can ‘quick-kill’ Terran Space Marine shooters armed with plasma rifles. However, this still leaves them vulnerable to enemy Aerial troops (“Lets nuke ‘em from orbit!”). So as an alternative maybe give them 2 x Veteran Mature Aliens (Mounted Heroes @ 8 AP).

Lovecraft's Shadow over Innsmouth Army
1 x Elder God "Cthulhu" (god @ 4 AP) 1 x Great Old One "Father Dagon" (behemoth gen @ 4 AP) 1 x priest (mage @ 4 AP) 4 x deep ones (beasts @ 8 AP) 2 x mad cultists (hordes @ 2 AP) 1 x mad cultists with guns (shooter @ 1 AP) 1 x nameless terror (land or water lurker @ 1 AP)
Their stronghold is a temple of unearthly geometry on an island that has risen from the sea bed!

Sounds great! Especially the possibility to change foot or mounted elements into flyers is really terrifying! "They nuke us from orbit!"

Thinking about it some more, the “ Thing” army can only ‘morph’ a 4 AP element into or out of being a God or Dragon if they roll a six for PIPs (and while in God form, they’ll be lost on a PIP roll of one…probably off repairing their crashed saucer under the ice). (Otherwise use the normal HoTT rules and have the “Thing” army consisting of only one of each troop type, one of which must be a Sneaker, that remain fixed throughout the game)======================================================== I’d also like to make a “ Predator” army:- 3 x Predator Hunters (Mounted Heroes @ 12 AP, one being the hunt leader). See khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/vacation-alien.jpg The problem is…what to do with the other 12 AP’s? Well, in the film “Alien vs Predator”, it is revealed that the Predators have been coming to Earth for thousands of years, and they enslaved human natives to worship them and build their pyramids and ziggurats…so:- 6 x subjugated Amazonian native tribesmen (Warbands @ 12 AP).

I am becoming quite fascinated in a “ Thing” army, as it’s one of my all-time favourite films. I plan on using the standard HoTT rules (so no element ’morphing’), with one figure per base made out of milliput putty in order to give them a sort of half-formed melted look. And to help differentiate who-is-who, the number of legs will show their speed, so 2 legs move 200p, 3 legs moves 300p, 4 legs moves 400p, and 6 legs moves 500p. 1 x 6-legged Polymorph (a Paladin, Hero, Mage or Behemoth @ 4 AP)…a large brain on a stalk with dangling tentacles. 1 x Airborne Polymorph (Flyer @ 2 AP)….a long thin cone-shaped body with two grasping arms and transparent wings. 1 x 6-legged Equid Polymorph (Rider @ 2 AP)…………with an animal-like head, but no jaws. 1 x 4-legged Feline Polymorph (Beast @ 2 AP)………..with a saber-toothed cat-like head. 1 x 3-legged Raptor Polymorph (Knight @ 2 AP)……..with a dinosaur-like head. 1 x 3-legged Fanged Polymorph (Warband @ 2 AP)…with a huge tooth filled open mouth as a body. 1 x 2-legged Armoured Polymorph (Blade @ 2 AP)….covered with large plate-like scales. 1 x 2-legged Spiny Polymorph (Spear @ 2 AP)…………covered with lots of pointy spikes. 1 x 2-legged Spitting Polymorph (Shooter @ 2 AP)….with an acid throwing funnel as a head. 1 x Imitation Husky (Sneaker @ 3 AP)…………………….”but he looks so cute…” 1 x Imitation Human (Lurker @ 1 AP)………………………speaks for itself. The leader could be any allowed element (other than a Paladin, Sneaker or Lurker). Alternative: another large 6-legged special Polymorph ( @ 4 AP). Home Region: Frozen Arctic terrain with research outpost buildings. Stronghold: a crashed saucer buried under the ice. ========================================================================= I doubt if anyone is interested (unless you’re a geek like me!), but here is a list of my planed Sci-Fi HoTT armies, colour-coded to give an idea of their skin or uniform shades. Those in brackets are still to be made:- See i.ibb.co/6gBJvb0/Sci-Fi-Ho-TT-Armies.jpg …and this still doesn’t cover Star Trek ( “to boldly go”), Star Wars ( “I have a bad feeling about this”), Babylon 5 ( “there are ancient races, vast and timeless”), Dune ( “Muad’Dib! Muad’Dib! Muad’Dib!”), Starship Troopers ( “do you want to know more?”), Farscape ( “now that’s what I’m talking about”), Battlestar Galactica ( “by your command”), Andromeda ( rebuilding the Commonwealth), and Stargate SG-1 ( “indeed”).

Oh, I’ve missed one.
An Ape Army:- 2 x Squadrons of Apes on horseback (Riders @ 4 AP). 7 x Squads of Apes with rifles (Shooters @ 14 AP). 1 x Ape Cannon battery (Artillery @ 3 AP). 1 x Doctor Zaius and Orangutans (Clerics @ 3 AP). Stronghold: an ape town.
And their opponents, a ‘Human’ Army:- 3 x Mutated Human Telepaths (Magicians @ 12 AP). 5 x Bands of Primitive Humans (Warbands @ 10 AP). 1 x Stranded Astronauts with captured guns (Shooters @ 2 AP). Stronghold: an underground nuclear missile.

Well done, stevie! Very impressive! It seems I hit a nerve, did'nt I? Well then, back to basics and classics, and let's think big! Only one giant spider is not enough, so there must be legions:
TARANTULAE
Another terrifying HOTT army
1 x mother of terror: Spider Queen Tarantula (Behemoth General @ 4 AP) 2 x sisters of terror (Behemoth @ 8 AP) 3 x a bunch of daughters (Beasts @ 6 AP) 1 x giant spitting spiders (Shooters @ 2 AP) 2 x big desert spiders (Lurkers @ 2 AP) 2 x crawling baby nests (Hordes @ 2 AP)
Their Stronghold will be the radioactive crater of an A bomb test site located in Nevada's Area 51.
