Fab day with some great games, narrow victories and crushing defeats. Learned a few new rules as well.
Cheers for organising Pete.

Second that - great day although I only managed one win - largely due to my opponent never rolling more than 2 for pips. A good day out nonetheless.

Thanks for a great day, Pete. Well run and a good atmosphere, with friendly enemies (if you get my drift).
My Dark Age Greeks had a bit of a ‘mare. Not keen on their solids, it seems (too many solid foot)….they lost five, and scored a winning draw. Pretty poor showing for an army with four of the allegedly miraculous 3Bd elements. 🙃

I don’t think I ever got off the naughty (bottom) table! I thought my Bosporans had a nicely balanced mix, but they did not have a good day, winning only once in the hands of an opponent. I was interested to see some new situations in games - one of my legionaries was destroyed by two shooting bows on a 6-1 and in another game my spear line was decimated by spears (who usually go on scrummaging for ever). Had my greatest successes using other players psiloi. So, an interesting set of games against fun opponents.
The venue was excellent and the whole thing was ably run by Pete. Thank you.

Many of the facts are false or misremembered, situations have been added to dramatic effect and names have been altered to protect the innocent.
I took Thebans - (G)8sp, 1 x 8sp, 2 x Sp, 2 x CV, 3 x Ps, with Athenian allies 2 x Sp and 1 x 3Bw cos I thought a bit of shooting could be handy. Aggression 1 arable. Terrain I took was Compulsory BUA (edifice), 1 x wood and waterway to narrow the field of battle as I thought there could be a whiff of knights in the air. At the tourney I found out the Athenians could use the littoral landing ability. Think I did it once as I normally get mullered after attempting it but think I should have at least threatened it more to give opponent something to think about.
Game 1 vs Martin Smith with his Dark Age Greeks. I got to defend and lined up between waterway and the BUA, Martin secured the woods and half our armies faced off against each other looking pretty all game on my right. On my left CV, Bw, Aux, Ps and Sp had a prolonged back and forth scrap with a worry of my CV backing ingo the BUA. Martin kindly rolled 4 or 5 1's in a row for pips and could not take an advantage. I got a breakthrough and managed a very lucky 4-1 victory.
Game 2 vs Chris Kemp, I used his Thebans and he got terrain so same fixed pick as above. The Athenians threatened a landing to keep me honest and main lines faced each other. My borrowed Theban Ps managed to mug Mark's Ps and Bw on my right. The Ps then went on to pin the Athenian Sp leaving my CV to swing round and threaten rear of the other Theban battle line. The victory of the Ps meant I got a 4-0 victory.
Game 3 vs Tony Greens Spartans, one great thing about the hoplite theme was that Xyston forces were aplenty. My Athenians threatened the Spartan right flank causing their Aux to angle in the BUA awaiting them. I should have rushed my 8sp in before the Spartans could reform but didn't so by time I got to grips and got a breakthrough the game was over with a 3-1 winning draw to me. I normally lose and occasionally win quick but Camden much closer to timinbnout in a few games. Poss due to loads of Sp manoeuvring to form a line in hampering terrain, it made for really tense games which was great.
2 wins and nearly a third so all going great and really happy. Then a smiling Mark Johnson ambles over and announces we are drawn in next game and I am using his Hvy Chariot heavy Early Kyrenean Greek force. Mark had joined me for the journey which made it a much more pleasant trip so surely he would roll over. Find out more in the next episode of some git crushed my dreams. To be posted after my dog walk.

…the Curse of the Murgatroyd Prediction…..!!! He’s one of two players who should have won the NC by now - well overdue 😝 P And the other player to be cursed is......? (If I were to hazard a guess I would say it was someone who loves a leek, usually chooses terrain with one or more difficult hills, was leading the Northern Cup with Mr O'Shea one year, only for them to cancel each other out by drawing the last game, which allowed some lucky upstart to come up on the rails and sneak the trophy away from them and he ground out a very canny 2-2 draw with me yesterday. Though I could be wrong?!)
