Themed "It's all Greek to me ". DBA 3.0 using any army based in the territory that is now modern day Greece or containing troops listed as Hoplites. If you don’t have a valid 3.0 army - no problem as loan armies are available. Same 12 elements for each game, no dismounts
Same 12 elements for all games so no dismounting or other shenanigans. We will attempt 6 rounds. For the first round players will use their own army, in alternate last rounds players use their opponent's army. Bring a clear, spare list to help them. Also bring a preset valid set of terrain pieces for use with your army by yourself and by your opponents.
Mercian DBA is part of the SOA UK DBA League
Note the City Centre venue , Coventry Quakers - 25 Hill St, Coventry CV1 4AN

I too am interested…but I’m a little unsure of the limitations of this event, as ‘Modern Day Greece’ includes the southern coastline of ancient Thrace. Can I assume that the requirements are as follows:- (a) Must be a Greek speaking army who’s homeland is in Greece, and (b) Must contain several Hoplite elements, not counting allied Hoplites. This would eliminate these armies:-The I/60c Early Achaemenid Persians, the II/30a Galatians, and the II/33 Polybian Romans, all of whom fought in Greece, but were not Greek speakers, did not live in Greece, and don’thave lots of Hoplites. This would also eliminate the Macedonians and Alexander’s Successors, as Macedon is north of Thessaly, and these don’t have lots of Hoplites either. Likewise, the I/30a Dark Age Greeks don’t have any Hoplites, but they do have 4 x 3Bd. And lastly it would eliminate the Byzantines, who did speak Greek, who did live in Greece, but they too have no Hoplites. But what about these armies?:-All the II/31 Hellenistic Greeks, who did speak Greek, they did live in Greece, but again no Hoplites (apart from II/31h Athens, II/31i Eleians, and the II/31cd Spartans). And would the II/31j Aetolians still be allowed, even though they have no Hoplites? I think a lot of players will be bringing the II/5c Thebans with their 2 x 8Sp double-bases! (Sorry to be such a pedantic nitpicker, but I don’t want to end up bringing the wrong army… )

stevie…the original/ OP stated “…. using any army based in the territory that is now modern day Greece OR containing troops listed as Hoplites.“
So Hoplite inclusion was not a defining requirement, as far as I can tell….so Mycenaean Greeks or Dark Age Greeks would theoretically fit the bill, as would Byzantines (with no hoplites). I had assumed that a Greek colony army would also fit the bill (?) eg Sicilian or Italian Greeks, or Asiatic or Black Sea Greeks. Greece was more an idea than a place, I would suggest.

Good points Martin. Perhaps I’m being too restrictive in my thinking. (I remember one of Simon’s tournaments where 4, yep four, players turned up with Bosporan armies… …Littoral, aggression zero, and loads of Knights! At least the Bosporus isn’t part of Modern Greece )

(I remember one of Simon’s tournaments where 4, yep four, players turned up with Bosporan armies… …Littoral, aggression zero, and loads of Knights! At least the Bosporus isn’t part of Modern Greece )The Bosporan army lists Hoplites so presumably this means it's a valid army to take, as is Saitic Egyptian, but what about Classical Indian II/3b which lists Bactrian Greek Guardsmen as Sp but not Hoplites? Also if the army lists Hoplites do you actually have to field them e.g. for the Bosporan, instead of Hoplites can you field the Kn? Perhaps if there is some disagreement about which armies can or can't be included, anyone planning to attend should let Pete know beforehand which army they intend to bring and he can say yea or nay? Finally, as Pete has specifically banned any shenanigans I presume that means no Irish armies are allowed?
