W1815 This fast and easy to play boardgame around the Battle of Waterloo is great and beautifully designed! Check it out on www.upgames.fi or www.boardgamegeek.com. Its developers took great pains to pack history into a straight forward game. And it offers even some what if scenarios (e.g. Grouchy catching up with Blücher). I have to admit I love it.

Leading on from this has anyone looked at "Waterloo Quelle Affaire" board game. I recently purchashed it and I am very impressed. A very challenging game. Apparently "Quelle Affaire" means "what a business" which is supposedly what Bulcher said the Wellington when they met.

(I was rather hoping the price would drop a tad, but it was snapped up). There was a mention of it on Alan Saunders’ blog, ‘The Stronghold Rebuilt’ seven years back and then a few months ago… hordesofthethings.blogspot.com/search?q=W1815Hope that helps

Beautifully designed and an enthusiastic review on boardgamegeek.com: "A game heavier than it seems." Easy to play, but hard to win. But as the 2 opponents use a kind of tactic cards in their hands, I wonder if it really can be played solo?

I tried it solo. I played my hand as per the rules but turned the other sides cards off the top of the deck. Diced to see if general attack was issued. Worked okay as a try out.

While the W1815 game comes along with a "coalition army bot", so you can play solo games as Napoleon against Wellington and Blücher, a french bot has been missing UP TO NOW. Here is the missing bot ( edit: I made it. BB), so that you can test how you would have performed instead of Wellington. W1815 FRENCH IMPERIAL ARMY BOT FOR SOLO GAMESTHESE RULES ARE USED TO PLAY A SINGLE PLAYER GAME. THE PLAYER COMMANDS THE ALLIED ARMY WHILE THE FRENCH ACTIONS ARE DETERMINED ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS. For the French Phase (FP) work the list down from top to bottom and choose the first action to which a condition applies. If the division markers of the chosen action are depleted the French choose the next possible action instead. Condition French ActionII Corps Reille took casualties in the last FP or II Corps Hill attacked Reille KELLERMAN or Kellerman caused Ney's Cavalry Charge I Corps D'Erlon took casualties in the last FP or Uxbridge attacked D'Erlon MILHAUD or Milhaud caused Ney's Cavalry Charge It is the first French Phase or the time marker has moved GRAND BATTERY or I Corps Orange has attacked AM 3 or less or AC 9 or more NAPOLEON and GUARD Prussians captured Plancenoit in the AP or their attack from Plancenoit caused FC GUARD Time is Midday REILLE 5 Prussian dm on the battlefield or more LOBAU Time is Afternoon or later D'ERLON Good luck then! You'll be surprised how dynamic the game will be, though you surely can sit around and wait for the night or the Prussians to come...

I admit I'm absolutely fascinated by Wells' works. This wargame adaption of his most famous novel is very remarkable. It's game mechanics are well balanced and very interesting. You're the overall british commander and you fight the martian invasion alone with your feeble forces of soldiers, cavalry, guns or even battleships... You plan and follow your strategy on a grand scale map and have to stand attacks or lead battles on a hex battle map.

Who knows something about Maurice? Tournament players seemed quite enthusiastic about it.

I know about Maurice, but I wouldnt put it in the same category of W1815. Its a much more traditional, long wargame, very much like other works from Sam Mustafa. It's good though.
W1815 is a work of art, the ratio of simplicity/flavor is incredible.

I do like simple two-player block board games, that can be played in under an hour, and one of my favorites is “Quebec 1759”. (See boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/85/quebec-1759 ) You move your blocks strategically around a map and when they meet form them into three columns and a reserve to fight your opponent’s three columns and their reserve.
