Was really impressed and entertained by the recent "Dune" movie.
Some ideas for using DBA to play out warfare in the Dune universe, starting with unit equivalents:
Swordsmen (SWD) = Blades (3 BD or 4BD) - in warfare dominated by body shield defenses this is the basic unit of any Dune-iverse army.
- Exceptional (Ginaz sword masters and Fremen Fedaykin),
- Superior (Sarduakar and Atreides troopers),
- Ordinary (Harkonnen and Landsraad mercenaries),
- Inferior (Great House conscripts)
Tribes (TRB) = Warband (4WB or 5WB) - Fremen warriors prior to Paul's training in tactics and the Weirding Way, still with a Superior rating
Pyons (PYN) - Hordes (7HD) - angry Arakeen townsmen used by Paul as shock troops in the first wave in the Battle of Arakeen
Suspensor (SSP) = Auxilia (3AX or 4 AX) - Harkonnen and Sarduakar anti-gravity suspensor borne infantry able to quickly cross rough terrain
Thopters (THP) = Light Horse (2LH) - basic means of aerial transport in the Dune universe
Armored Cars (ARM) = War Wagons (WWG) - prior to the Battle of Arakeen the Sarduakar sortied again the Fremen with armored cars
Crushers (CRU) = Expendables (EXP) - derelict space craft dropped from orbit on enemy positions, unlike scythed chariots movement would consist of placing them on top of an enemy unit
Lasguns (LAS) = Psiloi (2PS) - with special rules for mutual destruction from lasgun/shield interaction
Projectiles (PRJ) = Artillery (ART) - both the missiles Paul provides to the Fremen and the artillery used by the Baron to seal the fates of the Dukes soldiers.
Sandworms (WRM) = Elephants (ELE) - Shai Hulud and its Fremen riders, need to be more powerful than elephants
Landed Space Ships (SHP) = Litter (LIT) - used by the Emperor as his base of operations during the battle of Arakeen
Fortifications (FOR) = Built Up Areas (BUA) - the shielded palace at Arakeen, Fremen sietch and the fortifications used by the Harkonnens
The following armies would be assigned to different stages of the fighting for Arrakis and Paul's subsequent Jihad
A. The Fight for Arrakis
House Atreides = 2x SWD (X), 8x SWD (S), 2x THP
House Harkonnen = 2x LAS, 4x THP, 1x CRU, 1x PRJ, 4 SWD (O)
Sarduakar = 8 SWD (S), 2x SSP, 2x THP
Tribal Fremen = 4x WRM, 8x TRB (S)
B. The Desert War
House Harkonnen = 2x LAS, 4x THP, 6x SWD (O)
Sarduakar = 8 SWD (S), 2x SSP, 2x THP
Pauls' Fremen = 2x WRM, 2 SWD (X), 4 SWD (S), 1x PRJ, 3x THP
C. Battle of Arakeen
House Harkonnen = 4x THP, 8 SWD (I)
Sarduakar = 2 ARM, 6 SWD (S), 2x SHP, 2x THP
Townspeople = 12x PYO
Paul's Fremen = 3x WRM, 2 SWD (X), 4 SWD (S), 1x PRJ, 2x THP
D. Paul's Jihad
Jihad Fremen = 1 SWD (X), 6 SWD (S), 1x PRJ, 2x THP, 1 CRU, 1 SHP
Typical Landsraad Great House with remnant Sarduakar = 1x SWD (S), 4x SWD (O), 5x SWD (I), 2x THP
