Phil Steele just confirmed to me in a text that he plans to be there, presumably in a semi-official position representing the Society of Ancients. He did well last year with his dark age army (was it Pre-Feudal Scots?), and will be on the hunt for a podium position this year, I think Who amongst the Fanatici is planning to go? Martin

Not me, I'm afraid.
For those who are thinking of going and who would usually travel by train, there is a replacement bus service from Havant to Fratton station.

Me neither, unfortunately....first I've missed for a decade or so (how long has Portsmouth hosted, I wonder?).
The Society of Ancients Championship is back on its feet after an IT glitch which saw results disappear into the ether, so if you're attending, and are an SoA member pleeeeeez consider submitting games to the Championship.

I have plans to attend. 10am, given we also get an extra hour's sleep! I have no idea what I'll bring. The shortlist is still in double figures.... Last year was the first I'd missed for ages...

Could someone please take some pics for eg the Yahoo Group, and give us all a quick write up? Always good to hear what armies were brought along, and how they all fared.

I will be down and looking forwards to it. To get an understanding of tournament play and check full 3.0 understanding. Only have 28mm armies though so may need the odd investment in 15mm for the future....

Hi Martin, I was probably looking at this more for the tournament orientation and get to meet some of the guys involved, rather than specifically competing etc....as would be first tournament and only really engaging in SOA after many years away from war gaming. That said if anyone going may have a spare 15mm army (sounds a bit odd....but free cups of tea say), then would like an opportunity to learn on the job....otherwise happy to observe. Thanks peter.

Play, play, play !!!! I can't loan, as I won't be there, but maybe one of the other guys could loan an army. Much more fun to play than watch..... M

M If you e.mail Bill via the PAWS website he may be able to arrange an army. He's good like that! (But tell him you don't want Early Libyans, or whatever the v3 worst-army-to-take choice is these days..... ) M

Would most respectfully point out that my Early Libyans have in fact won two out of fourteen games! Now in my book that is what I call a successful army.

My Early Libyans win more than they lose (but I have only ever pit them against Early Egyptians)

Something like a Viking army is a good one to start with. Not too many troop types and fairly easy to do well with against many opponents.
