I am in the process of scratch building a Carroccio for an Italian Communal army. Base depth can be either 40mm without horses or oxen or 80mm with. Having the animals on the deeper base would, for me, look better but I can't see any tactical advantages like there are for WWgs in having a deeper base. CWgs don't shoot and exert a normal TZ to the front only as they are basically Blades that can't move into contact but are harder to kill and who don't recoil. For WWgs, a deeper base creates a bigger 30 TZ and wider shooting arcs if shooting from the long sides.
I would be interested yo know how others base their CWgs!

The increased shooting arc slipped past me, but then the deeper based element is a better target. For that reason, all my WWg are mounted 40mm square with horse teams separate.
Swapping banners will elevate any WWg to a CWg, the plus side of a Hussite army.
An Italian Carroccio however, should be fully loaded so as to compete with a Brazilian Carnaval; swordsmen, priests, choir, pages, relics, etc.
Pictures when completed, please.

With the CWg for my Anglo-Normans I went with the 40mmx40mm base.

With the CWg for my Anglo-Normans I went with the 40mmx40mm base. Cheers, Thanks. I am now thinking of doing a CWg for an Anglo-Norman army. Just trying to tap into ecclesiastical records to find out what the banners looked like at the Battle of Northallerton in 1138. The banners were those of St John of Beverley, St Wilfrid of Ripon and St Peter of York. Cheers Simon
