Been thinking about this for Pz8 but it uses a similar combat system than DBA (d6+ combat value somewhere between 2 to 6 to beat or double opponent).
I had an idea to give a “1/2” extra combat point. Basically if I want a combat factor if “3.5” I roll 2 dice, a regular die and a red die. If the red die is odd, just use the regular die. If the red die is even, then add 1 to the total score.
So the expected/average value will be 1/2 bigger. Having a red die with blank faces and 1s would make it even easier but not sure if they exist.

I mean, you can do that. I was turning your idea over in my brain and keep coming back to this question: " Does it meaningfully add to the existing game enough to bother?"

I mean, you can do that. I was turning your idea over in my brain and keep coming back to this question: " Does it meaningfully add to the existing game enough to bother?" So there seems to be a point at cf 3-4 that causes issues. Cf 2 is pretty straight forward, and cf 4-6 tend to be the shoving matches. But things like 4Ax that are cf 3. There were all kinds of rules about them +1 in certain circumstances to allow them to be in the battle line without getting murdered very quickly. This could also be an alternative to the fast solid divide. Should solid get more of a bonus over fast troops instead of a +1? This could be a way to give solid an edge over fast that’s a bit more beefy than winning on ties… Yeah, now that I think about it, perhaps it’s too complicated for not much gain… oh wel. Random evening thought.
