I still play two old 1990’s computer games via DOSBox:-
Master of Orion 2 (MOO3 was a big disappointment),
and the original 1994 XCOM: UFO Enemy Unknown.
Although the graphics are admittedly pretty poor by today’s standards,
the depth and gameplay is still far superior to that of many modern games.
(And for those of you that have just crawled out of a cryogenic sleeper chamber
and have never heard of the original 1994 XCOM: UFO Enemy Unknown, see:-
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XCOM#Original_X-COM_games
and www.ufopaedia.org/index.php/X-COM )
This game is in no way connected to the old 1970 British TV series “UFO”…
…but the plot and setting are remarkably similar.
So I’m planning to make this old favourite for HoTT 2.1.
Notes: Snakemen don’t have any Lurkers, as they move too slowly to get into such positions.
Ethereals should be able to fly, but in HoTT it’s more important to make these Magicians in
order to represent their powerful mind-controlling psychic abilities.
Alien squads consist of 2 figures, while Terror Units and Ambushers are usually single figures.
Optional Rule For Cryssalids: when an XCOM soldier (or a civilian) is destroyed by a Cryssalid,
they become a ‘Zombie’. These Zombies are treated the same as Hordes, except that when a Zombie
is killed it immediately turns into another newly hatched Cryssalid!
Notes: XCOM hand-held Auto Cannons and Heavy Cannons are treated as Shooters.
A Rocket Tank replaces a Rocket Launcher Squad.
XCOM squads are 3 figures, while Tanks are single models.
XCOM Rookie-Hordes are not replacements…they are wounded rookies that have been
healed by Medikits and are returning to the fight (in the same way that HoTT Hordes do).
----------------------------------
Now all I need are the figures.
Fortunately, many people over the years have already thought of this, and there are lots
of suitable figures available on the internet…often requiring little or no modification.
