When reviewing what armies I have and what is painted and what is not(🙄),I started wondering where am I in the DBA universe in comparison to other gamers?
I have 26 armies of which are painted and I can "field" 39...Arab Indian(not listed) I can put together from 3 different armies.
Here is my meager list...
Book I. 7
I/8abc Makkan ,Saba, etc.( Midianite allies). I/15 Late Amorite. I/28 Sea Peoples. I/43b Early Hu.
Book II. 15
II/5a Late Hoplite Spartan. II/5b. Late Hoplite Athenian. II/21c Former Ch'in. II/38a Hsuing nu. b Southern Hsuing nu. c Juan Juan. II/42ab Tamil. bc Sinhalese. II/61b Murong Hsien-pi. c T'u-yu-hun. II/79b Southern Dynasty Chinese. II/80a Attila's Huns. d Other Huns.
Book III. 11
III/2 Early Lombard. III/10a Kanauj. b Rajput. c Hindu.(Tibetan allies). III/17 Maurikian Byzantine. III/21ab Italian Lombard. III/33 Early Muslim Africa &vSicily(Taureg) III/40c Viking Leidang. III/52 Norman. III/64ab Ghaznavid.
Book IV. 5.
IV/5a Sicilian (Norman). IV/36ab Muslim Indian. IV/38 Grenadine. IV/75 Timurid.(Black Sheep allies). IV/79abcd Late Swiss.
I bet my list is a lot shorter than most.lol

I should be right behind Macbeth. After reading his painting update...that's what prompted my thoughts on this subject.😁

Surprisingly few but some can morph if you squint into different forces to boost the number.

Hmm, I think I'll do this in stages. I'm listing only armies that have been fully renovated, re-based and/or built to "Purple" standards. All 15mm. All standalone.
SECTION ONE (Excluding East Asian armies. I'll list them separately.) I/1bc Early Sumerian (Chariot) I/2 Old Kingdom Egyptian (Essex) I/5a Early Elamite (Essex) I/6 Early Bedouin (Chariot) I/7a Early Libyan (Chariot) I/7d Early Libyan (Mikes Models) I/15 Later Amorite (Essex) I/16 Hittite Old Kingdom (Essex) I/18 Minoan (Essex) I/20b Syro-Canaanite (Chariot) I/22a New Kingdom Egyptian (old "strip" Minifigs) I/28 Sea Peoples (Essex) I/29a Philistine (Essex) I/42 Neo-Elamite (Chariot) I/44b Neo-Babylonian (Essex) I/50 Lydian (Chariot) I/52 Early Hoplite Greek (Mikes Models) I/60a Early Achaemenid Persian (Mikes Models)

How many armies is a difficult question. One Greek Hoplite army can morph into many army lists. Does this count as one or ten? Also do you need to have all possible options to count an army list as complete?
I count the number of distinct army lists (or sub lists) I can field with correct figures and all options. On this count I’m at 173.
Not that impressive: Doing Greeks and Hellenics get you to 50 army lists with only 80 or 90 elements. LPIA armies and later Arab armies similarly stack up the army lists with relatively few elements. Then throw in some generic feudal & later medievals and you get another load of army lists done. Unfortunately it seems to be hard slog after that!

I currently have 140 armies made up and fully Purple compliant. You can find the first 125 in my old 'My Little Sample' post.
the list includes some double ups - I have 3 Scots Common armies and the same number of Late Imperial Romans, and two Southern Sung armies
The extras finished since the last of My Little Sample are II/56 Early Imperial Roman (X) II/33 Polybian ROman (X) II/7 Late Acheamenid Persian (X) I/60a Early Acheamenid Persian (X) IV/85a Burgundian Ordonance IV/1a Komnenan Byzantine II/28a Tigranid Armenian I/7a Early Libyan II/68b Pictish (X) III/35c Feudal Spanish II/60 Caledonian (X) IV/57a Low Countries I/6a Early Bedouin II/40 Numidian (X)
The ones marked (X) came from the estate of a recently deceased gamer - either all or part of the army was bequeathed to me already painted, I just had to rebase them all.
At this current juncture I still have about 8 armies that need to be brought up to DBA3 compliance - I can't say if they can provide a legal army as is. Some will.
I am also just shy of completing III/62a Northern Sung (Khursan figs)- with just 1x8Cb and 1x4Cb to go I/4a Zagros Highlanders - 3x3Wb, 3x3Ax and 3xPs to go II/18f Macedonian Early Successor (Olympias) 1xLit(G) and 2x4Pk to go II/19a Selucid 4x4Pk to go (this army, without the Pk) is made up from more of the deceased estate.
I easily have another 60 armies laid up in the Lead Mines of Mt Neverpaint and I have never considered the concept of what could be made up as additional forces from the existing stable.
Cheers

As I suspected, right behind Macbeth with 127 armies. However, swapping flags within the Late Medieval collection, I can add another 23.
Of the 127, there are 33 duplicate armies enabling civil war battles or battles with double size command.

My lot -
Reference Description dba DBDBA BBDBA Book I Old/Middle Kingdom Eyptian(a) 1 Early Nubian 1 Midianite Arab(b) 1 1 Pre-Vedic Indian 1 Vedic Indian(a,b) 1 Scythian(a,b) 1 1
2 6
Book II Republican Indian 1 Mountain Indian 1 Classical Indian(a) 1 Athenian 1 Ch'in(d) 1 Gallic 1 Sarmatian 1 Early Armenian(b,c) 1 Parthian 1 Han(a,b) 1 British 1 Three Kingdoms 1 MIR 1 Sassanid(b,c) 1 Ostrogoth 1 Early Saxon 1 Gepid 1 Frankish 1 Palmyran 1 1 LIR West 1 LIR East 1 Pict 1 8 2 13
Book III Early Lombard 1 Italian Ostrogoth 1 Rshrui Armenian 1 Feudal Spanish 'b' 1 Feudal Spanish 'c' 1 Norman 1 Ottonian 1 2 1 4
Book IV Anglo-Norman 1 Feudal French 'a' 1 Early Crusader 1 Later Crusader 1 PRUSSIAN 1 Teutonic 1 Low Country 1 HYW English 1 Early Burgundian 1 Later Swiss (generic figures) 1 WOTR 1
2 4 5 14 7 28
Not quite all options for each army, although with the DBDBA and BBDBA I can probably build a all option DBA army for that list.
And particularly with the late Book III and Book IV DBDBA and BBDBA armies I could break them up to make a number of other lists and increase the nominal number of DBA armies.
Just as those BBDBA LIR armies could be split up and combined with Gothic, Frankish, or German elements to make Patricians and Early Byzantines.
